Such was Carol’s personality, and Calla couldn’t do anything about it. Thus, she let Carol be.

Just as she was thinking this, Calla felt a little nauseous. She was probably about to vomit again. Thus, she briefly gave Carol a heads–up and quickly got up to go to the bathroom.

After retching for a while, she tidied herself up and left the bathroom.

When she reached the banquet hall’s entrance, Calla saw a large flower basket at the door. It had a ribbon that read, “Mercer Garland wishes the newlyweds a lifetime of joy“..

Seeing this flower basket, Calla couldn’t help but be stunned. She was unable to recover from the shock for a while.

Why would Mercer send a flower basket to Ethan and Eleanor? She lowered her head and thought for a moment. Mercer must have had some sort of interaction with them at work, so he sent a flower basket to congratulate them.

As for attending the banquet, someone as high–profiled as him naturally wouldn’t bother.

“Mrs. Garland, you’re here too?”

Calla turned around and saw Simon standing behind her. She was a little surprised and asked, “You_ came to deliver the flower basket?”

Of course, Mercer couldn’t possibly have come. He would have sent Simon to deliver the flower basket in his stead.

Simon shook his head and replied, “I came with Mr. Garland.

“He… also came?” Calla looked around but didn’t see any sign of Mercer.

Simon hurriedly explained, “Mr. Garland ran into a few acquaintances and is having dinner with them in a private room.”

Upon hearing this, Calla was even more puzzled. Why would he, someone of such high status, come to a commoner’s wedding banquet to dine?

“Oh, then I’ll head in first.” Although Calla was surprised, she didn’t say much else and turned to walk into the banquet hall. Calla stayed with Carol until the end of the reception.

As they walked to the hotel lobby, Carol suddenly saw Rudy approaching and hurriedly smiled to greet him. Calla saw this but didn’t want to intervene, so she walted in place.

Rudy, have you been eating well?” Carol seemed a little timid.

“Don’t beat around the bush. Get straight to the point. I need to return soon.” Rudy was very impatient.

Carol smiled and said, “Zoey is in her second year of college now, and you’re wellexperienced. Please consider employing her in the future.”

That girl has been stupid since she was little. She can just find any job when she graduates.” Rudy spoke with disgust at the mention of Zoey.

But Carol insisted, “She’s still your daughter, so please consider helping her.”

“Alright, alright. I got it.” Rudy reluctantly agreed.

Calla, who was standing aside, was already full of anger seeing Carol being so submissive. She immediately walked over, pulled Carol, and said, “Mom, you’ve finished talking, right? Let’s go.”

“But…” Carol wanted to say more.

At that moment, a sharp voice suddenly came from behind them.

“Carol, Rudy divorced you many years ago. How can you still shamelessly cling to him? It seems like you really have no one else to turn to, right?” Jill came over and spoke with an arrogant tone.

She added, “He’s married now. Please stop bothering him for no reason. If you keep this up, you’ll become a home–wrecker.”

Carol, who had never quarreled before, was so angry that her eyes turned red. She stammered, “YouHow can you say such things? Rudy and I have two daughters together. Can’t I talk to him about our daughters?”
