Chapter 53
Mercer pushed Peggy’s hand away and said coldly, “Excuse me.” Then, he turned and walked out of the
room.
“Mercer…” Peggy was very angry, but she had no way to deal with the sudden coldness Mercer exhibited.
Mercer and Simon walked into the elevator one after the other. Mercer asked, “What was her reaction?”
“She asked me to tell you that she’ll be having lunch on her own from now on,” Simon replied. Hearing.
this, Mercer frowned.
Simon caught sight of this and gathered his courage, saying, “Mr. Garland, why are you doing this? You clearly care about Mrs. Garland. Seeing her upset must make you feel bad too.”
“You’re talking too much today,” Mercer said as his cold eyes glanced at Simon, who dared not say
another word.
The elevator sounded, indicating they’d arrived on the first floor.
Before stepping out, Mercer instructed, “Order a meal from Sunny Café under your name and have it delivered. Make sure to include a freshly baked cream bun. As for the rest, you decide.”
“Yes, sir,” Simon immediately responded, but his mouth twitched slightly.
Calla sat at her desk, She stared at the cream bun in front of her but had no appetite at all.
Alicia had just finished her lunch and walked into the office. She immediately noticed the cream bun on Calla’s desk. Alicia leaned in and whispered, “Even the scrooge knows you like the cream buns from this
shop?”
Calla felt a little dejected. She forced herself to perk up and said, “Mr. Beck ordered it for me because I
haven’t eaten.”
“Even the people around the scrooge know you love cream buns, and specifically from Sunny Café? It must have been the scrooge who told him to order it for you, right?” Alicia asked curiously.
Alicia’s words struck Calla like a bucket of cold water. That’s right. If Mercer had no feelings for her, why would he remember her preferences so clearly? Could it be that..
Calla didn’t dare to think further. Earlier, Mercer had clearly seen her at Premier Lounge. Yet, he deliberately flaunted his affection for Peggy in front of her. Was it intentional?
Calla racked her brain but couldn’t figure out why Mercer would do this. Was it just to make her unhappy?
Thinking about it now, Calla seemed to understand. He was retaliating against her because she used him in a bet and angered him. So now he was using Peggy to get back at her.
Realizing this, Calla instantly felt furious. Her chest swelled with anger as she said, “All he knows is how to exploit people. There’s no way he’d be so kind.”
“Don’t be ungrateful, Many people would love to have this kind of thoughtful meal,” Alicia teased.
“If you want it, you can have it!” Calla shouted and pushed the cream bun toward Alicia.

“It’s not eve
for me. I have my pride.” Alicia pushed the cream bun back to Calla.
The cream bun smelled delicious, and Calla usually loved it. But this time, the sweetness overwhelmed her, and her stomach churned. She rose to her feet in a hurry, covered her mouth, and ran outside.
Calla rushed out of the office and headed toward the bathroom. Coincidentally, Mercer was passing by the finance department. He saw Calla covering her mouth as if she was about to vomit. He immediately frowned.
Since there was no one else around, Mercer quickly followed her to the women’s bathroom. Hearing the continuous sounds of painful retching inside, his frown deepened.
