Chapter 52
Simon looked at the puzzled Calla. He was a little embarrassed to say it but still told her, “Mrs. Garland, Ms. Horn is inside.
Hearing that, Calla stared at Simon in shock. She then looked at the door in front of her, dazed for a moment. There seemed to be a bit of reluctance in Simon’s eyes, but there was nothing he could do.
Calla didn’t understand why Mercer had brought Peggy here at this time–but she had a feeling that it wasn’t for anything good. Then, Calla took a step forward and gently pushed the door open.
As soon as the door opened, Calla saw Mercer and Peggy sitting shoulder to shoulder. Mercer was wearing a white shirt. His face was slightly flushed–likely from drinking a bit of alcohol.
Peggy was sitting in front of him in a V–neck blouse. The neckline was plunging as low as it could go. She looked radiant, constantly placing food onto Mercer’s plate. Their postures and the strange atmosphere around them clearly indicated an unusual relationship.
At that moment, Calla suddenly felt a faint pain in her heart. She couldn’t understand how the affectionate man from last night could be so intimate with another woman the very next day.
“Mercer, try this potato skin. It’s really delicious.” Peggy’s voice carried a hint of coyness.
Suddenly, Mercer looked up and saw Calla’s figure through the half–opened door. Their eyes met for a couple of seconds. Then, Mercer withdrew his gaze. He looked at Peggy and deliberately raised his voice when he said, “You look really beautiful today.”
It was the first time Mercer complimented Peggy. She was stunned, they a

Facing Peggy’s coyness, Mercer calmly looked at her and replied in a deep voice, “The clothes are beautiful.”
Peggy frowned at his reply.
Mercer unexpectedly added, “But the person is even more beautiful.”
Hearing that, Peggy extended her hand with bright red nails and playfully pushed Mercer’s chest. Her eyes were full of charm as she said, “Oh, you bad boy.”
At this point, Calla had already withdrawn her hand, and the door was left ajar. She could still hear the playful banter inside. Her face turned pale.
She slowly turned toward the exit, saying, “Mr. Beck, please tell Mr. Garland that I’ll be having lunch on my own from now on.” Before Simon could respond, Calla had already turned and left. She was worried she’d tear up in front of Simon.
Calla ran out of the Riviera. She looked up at the sky, forcing the tears back. She told herself that she mustn’t cry. She had already anticipated today’s scenario when they got their marriage certificate.
How could she be so foolish as to develop feelings for him? He was a man surrounded by all sorts of glory. How could he be devoted to an ordinary woman like her?
They were both linked purely by coincidence. From now on, she would consider him merely as the father of her child. As for everything else–whether it was a performance or a game–it would just be a dream. that she could wake up from at any time.

Inside that one room at Premiere Lounge, Mercer looked down at his watch. It had been five minutes since Calla left; she should be far away by now. Thus, Mercer suddenly stood up and said to Peggy, “I have an appointment. You can eat by yourself.”
Peggy finally had the chance to be alone with Mercer. Naturally, she wouldn’t want to miss this great opportunity.
She quickly stood up, wrapped her arm around his, and said with a forced smile, “Mercer, you should finish your meal even if you have an appointment. It’s not good for your health to eat so irregularly.”
