Chapter 51
“Do you think he would mind if I used him to win a bet? Calla asked Alicia nervously.
Alicia shook her head. “You can only blame your bad luck. Winning 400 dollars in exchange for offending the scrooge isn’t worth it.”
“What should I do?” Calla wanted to pull all her hair out
“You could always sweet–talk him. That might just placate him,” Alicia said with a smile.
Calla frowned, looking troubled. “I don’t think that’s a good idea.”
Alicia pressed, “Why not? You two are legally married, after all.”
“I’ll think about it.”
Valla pouted, feeling a little regretful. Wasn’t he supposed to be at some sort of grand opening? Why did he come back at noon? And why did he have to overhear her conversation?
After lunch, everyone was packing up and getting ready to return. Calla was no exception. She went to the VIP wing to pack her luggage. As soon as she entered the villa, she saw Ally standing in the living room with her suitcase in hand.
Seeing Calla, Ally approached her with a smile. “Mrs. Garland, your suitcase has been packed.”
Glancing at her suitcase, Calla took it and looked up the stairs. She asked, “Mr. Garland… has he left?”
“Mr. Garland and Mr. Beck have already left, Ally replied.
Hearing this, Calla nodded and forced a smile. After bidding farewell to Ally, she took her suitcase and left.
Upstairs, a tall figure watched Calla leave with her suitcase through the window.
Calla walked under a few Magnolia trees. The white blossoms swayed in the breeze, scattering petals onto her hair and shoulders.
Although Calla knew that there was no love between her and Mercer, she felt an indescribable emptiness at that moment. She suddenly missed him and wished she could see him now. Then, she could explain the betting incident to him in person.
Calla suddenly turned around and looked toward the window. She had a strange feeling that he hadn’t left yet.
Mercer saw that she looked toward the window and quickly hid behind the curtains. After a while, he looked out again, but she was gone.
Just then, the sound of high heels approached. Ally walked in and said, “Mr. Garland, Mrs. Garland has boarded the bus.”
Mercer bowed his head in thought for a couple of seconds, then instructed, “Call the driver and tell him to drive slowly to ensure safety.”
“Alright,” Ally responded before leaving.
Mercer calmly lit a cigarette. His gloomy eyes gazed at the beautiful scenery outside.

Ever since Calla appeared, his heart had been in turmoil. He didn’t know if it was because of her personality or her appearance, but the scar in his heart ached faintly. He took a few puffs of the cigarette and then crushed it in the ashtray.
The next day, Calla was restless all morning in the office. She was now looking forward to lunchtime, hoping to see Mercer at the Riviera during lunch. She planned to properly explain the betting incident to him then.
Finally, it was noon. As soon as Calla packed her things, she grabbed her bag and headed to the Riviera.
Once she reached Premiere Lounge, Calla saw Simon standing at the door. His expression was somewhat odd when he saw her.
“Hello, Mr. Beck.” Calla greeted Simon and tried to step inside, but he stretched out his hand to stop her. Calla looked at him in confusion, not understanding why he did that.
