Chapter 58

Mother Confessor:

It is an unexpected surprise to be granted a small level of freedom from Captain Graxis. I could tell he was reluctant in his decision to pick up where Sergeant Nimix had left off. He has proven to be most patient with me, as I work my backside off to achieve my goals. Pulling some strings with a few individuals to allow me to spend time getting to learn about some of my fields of interest. I always look forward to going to the armor depot, though on my first day it was challenging. Having made headway in my simple piloting skills, feeling more accomplished with my improvements when piloting the war frame.

As of the last few days though, the Captain has seemed somewhat stressed. It must have something to do with something very important. Otherwise why else had he been so low energy and quick to snap at my mistakes, over my lessons with him in sword play. Though this bothered me, I dared not overstep my boundary. It has made it a little harder to focus as I do care for his well being. After all he is partially responsible for allowing me the chance to start over, to be somebody. I consider him my friend, despite the fact that he is my superior now. Being grateful for the gift, it still hurts that I am helpless do anything to help him. He is a seasoned officer that knows how to deal with such feelings. Perhaps he shall feel at ease once whatever is on his mind has come to a close.

My mind on my new mentor, as I go through my morning workout. It felt good to be building my musculature. It was also rewarding to be building up my stamina as well. Each day the pains of working my body become less and less. As well as not being eyeballed and made a sexual object by the other crew, as I work through my daily assignments as per the Captains order.

Marckus:

It is hard being here as the time draws near being with Red Wolf and the others in the hangar. This is by no means the most difficult task I have sent her on, and I have no idea of what will be found in the facility. I would rather go in her stead, as then I have only myself to lose. The pilot politely informs us that there is five minutes till departure. My gut wrenches.

Looking down at Captain Flurren and Master Sergeant Rynis, “You keep sharp boys. I should like nothing to falter on this one,” I say in a stern tone to the smaller soldiers.

“Yes, sir”, they reply their understanding of what I expect of them.

Turning my attention to my sniper, “Red, be safe. I would like to avoid Rhinos wrath if at all possible”, I address her with the concern.

“I will be alright. Been in worse hell holes than this, with a lot less to work with”, she says giving a quick glance down at her companions. “Don’t worry about Nicholas, he will be far more pissed at those responsible”, she adds with a small laugh.

Despite her confidence in me, I cannot shake this feeling. Letting a nervous laugh loose to join hers. If anything were to happen to her, I could never forgive myself. When the pilot announces the thirty second mark. I watch as they board the craft and take their designated seating. As the hatch rises from the deck of the hangar, I catch Red Wolfs gaze just for a moment before she disappears behind it. Trying to somehow convey that I wish she return relatively unharmed. After all a wrecking ball like me does not need the loss of a good friend and officer on his conscience.

Watching as the platform carries the craft with the stolen armor escort into the inner hull, and is sealed behind the heavy metal door. I wish them luck and God speed, hoping to hell that luck is on our side.
