Chapter 57

Mother Confessor:

“Yes, sir”, I start my answer,” Sergeant Nimix was being abrasive in her teaching me to use a sword. Captain Graxis did indeed question her tact and her method. He then had me step aside so that he may teach the Sergeant a lesson on the matter. For several minutes a dual was fought. It was ended when the Captain with his skill, removed the Sergeants nose ring with his practice weapon.”

Marckus:

Taking the Private’s account of the event, it does seem to corroborate the Captain’s testimony. Now to the final say, seeing as Red Wolf seems to hold some responsibility in the matter. The level of her anger toward the Sergeant denotes her displeasure with tasking the other with the training of the Private.

“Volkov, you seem to have made an error in judgment when it came to finding a suitable candidate to train the green Private”, I say to the General in an even tone. Her fiery gaze meets mine as I wait for her response.

“As you know, sir, I only wanted her to get her a decent training and trainer”, she begins a rasp in her sore voice,” Perhaps my error was in not being as thorough in my researching a proper candidate. For this I will take responsibility for my misstep, because she did after all come to me on the matter. Woman to woman you see. Forgive me, sir, upon my transgression. I did not wish to disrespect, or reflect poorly upon you. I shall relinquish the matter to you seeing as a I have failed you, sir.”

It hurt to hear those words from Red Wolf, as she never fails me. I suppose being incapacitated and confined for too long has clouded her judgment.

“Your apology will be noted, Red,” I address her words,” It pains me to hear you say such things. I trust you shall not commit an infraction again?”

“No, sir”, she bitterly bites back with regret.

“Good, Red”, still keeping an even tone despite being upset,” Now, I want you to get back to work on being active once more, as well as commune with Flurren on your plans for Callisto. Unless you do not feel up to task.”

“No, sir,” Red Wolf cuts back,” I will redeem myself and earn my respect of you back, sir. I should like to receive my payment for taking on the burdens you have previously tasked me with.”

“That pleases me, Volkov. I have the perfect form of payment in mind, as I intend to honor our agreement on the matter. I think you will find it most pleasing to know that it involves acquiring an item which all top snipers covet,” I offer to her.

“You are not speaking about what I am thinking of are you,” she exclaims in a better mood.

“The very one in the same legendary weapon. It would be a pleasure to award a decorated officer with such a prize,” I tell her,” You succeed my desire and I shall see that it is yours.” Nodding her acceptance to my offer of the item of desire, and to exceed my expectation of her with my original role for her to play on Callisto.

Graxis:

“About an hour out from the planet, sir”, the helmsman tells me, as the largest planet in the system grows in the distance.

“Good”, I tell him as it gets steadily larger,” Keep us just opposite of the target moon.”

With the order given the massive red eye turns to meet us. The Ober-Commander will be pleased after the week long wait. I am sure he is ready to start laying into the Confederation without remorse. I hope we can finally reunite the thirteen from Pluto with their loved ones. That is if there are any left to do so. Putting the negative thought from my mind, as I should like them to be united once more and off to a safer destination. As we draw nearer our objective the less safe they will be aboard the battleship. Placing the alert for the armor squads at the ready, knowing full well the two pilots of the Terran armor to accompany the General to the base should be at the ready.

Markus:

Red Wolf looks sharp in her dress uniform and borrowed lab coat. Keeping my confidence that she will gain entrance to the military installation and achieve the objective with ease. Captain Flurren stone faced beside her wearing his issue fatigues and lab coat. It was a bit long as it seemed to fit a Zemosion, but it would do fine for our little excursion. Red Wolf’s was a bit short, but she amended this by rolling the sleeves up to her elbows. I was pleased at her recovery and hoped that her ribs did not give her problem, as they were still on the mend.

She had a small pistol strapped to her inner thigh for emergencies. Letting my plan rest on the hope that they would not search a General on official business. Suppose we shall find out soon enough.

Standing in the hangar with them and their armor escort. The maintenance crew did a hell of a job retrofitting the science vessel and applying the proper insignia on to the craft. I just wish it did not have to be so complicated, but I do not wish to risk the civilians being housed within the facility.

Having them go in ahead of the assault squad was a good move. I even convinced Red Wolf to take on the small Master Sergeant to move things along. Despite her reserved nature to adding a last minute team member to her landing party, I did note that having the extra man would make things a bit easier on her mission. Telling her that his size would play to her advantage. She accepted the last minute detail to her already contrived team. I figured the ex-Marine would like to be of service in some capacity instead of sitting on his hands.

Graxis:

Since taking charge of the new Private after the incident with her last instructor. She has progressed, keeping a firm rein on her training. Though I took a unique approach in setting up a routine and a network of hand-picked soldiers to be my eyes and ears when I cannot directly be there to supervise. Over the past week this open system has yielded positive results with the Private.

Anticipating the gamble that I hope will be worth the risk. I mull over my extra responsibility. Observing from the bridge as we traverse the last few hundred thousand klicks to Jupiter. The helmsman had located the target objective on Callisto with the long range scanner, by catching a transmission signature from the moon. The General is no doubt by now preparing to get into action. Silently wishing her, and her companions well. Hoping that nothing goes awry.
