Chapter 8 Linda’s Wedding Arrangements

Hearing the word ‘sister–in–law, Melissa secretly felt pleased but pretended to be shy on her face. Yan, stop with the nonsense.”

Christine looked on with amusement as if the comedic duo performance of the two could be staged and performed at her church.

“Yan is indeed talking nonsense. Miss Lange, please don’t take it to heart.” As Linda’s stern voice resounded from behind, Melissa’s face froze.

Observing Linda’s improved expression, Christine asked concernedly, “Have you taken your medicine at noon? It only works if you take it on time.”

Feeling a warm sensation in her heart, Linda took a few steps forward and held her hand. Yes, I’ve taken it. How could I not listen to my dear granddaughter–in–law?”

The emphasis on the words granddaughter–in–law‘ pierced through Melissa’s ears

“Grandma, what are you saying? She’s not worthy of being Sid’s partner!Yanice quickly stepped forward to defend Melissa.

“Shut up and go finish your homework.” Linda’s reprimand left Yanice frightened into silence, and all she could do was glare resentfully at Christine.

“Miss Lange, Sidney and Christine will have their engagement ceremony soon. You’re welcome to join us. Anyway, it’s almost lunchtime. I’ve been having light meals recently, so I won’t keep you around. We can have a gathering between our two families next time.” Linda maintained a gentle smile, but her words were heart–piercing.

Instantly, a displeased expression crossed Melissa’s face

Meanwhile, Christine was taken aback. When did we decide to get engaged? I’ve no idea about it

Yanice wanted to say something, but Melissa stopped her. She suppressed the suffocating feeling in her chest and slowly raised her head with a smile, saying, “I came here this time on behalf of Grandpa. Now that I’ve seen you, I can rest assured. I won’t disturb you any longer. Take good care of yourself. I’ll come to visit again sometime.”

Linda nodded affirmatively. “That’s so kind and sweet of you.” Although she said that, her voice became louder as soon as Melissa turned around. “Howard.”

“Yes, Old Mrs. Pierce, how can I assist you?”

“We mustn’t be careless with the engagement banquet. The engagement should be grand and beautiful!”

“Understood. I’m currently selecting a venue for Miss Morgan and Mr. Pierce.” With a smile, he promptly added, “How about organizing a lavish wedding for them? I suggest considering the Anglo Grand Hotel as the venue. What do you think, Old Mrs. Pierce?”

“A grand wedding alone won’t be enough. Let’s have weddings inspired by different countries once per

month.”

Listening to those piercing words, Melissa bit her lower lip tightly while her face reddened in anger. She suppressed the fury in her heart and hastily left the Pierce: Residence.

As Yanice watched her figure receding, a pang of sympathy welled within her. She firmly believed that all of this was Christine’s fault. Poor Mel

“Madam Pierce, what engagement ceremony are you talking about? Why didn’t you tell me?” Christine took a deep breath, trying to calm herself as everything seemed to be happening so suddenly.

Linda quickly comforted her. “Don’t let Yan’s words bother you. As for the engagement ceremony, it’s just a matter of time. I just thought you two would have the opportunity to develop feelings for each other once engaged. Besides, it would also help prevent Sidney from being pursued by others.”

Christine had no feelings for him, so she naturally did not mind his pursuers. Even so, she avoided discussing this issue and looked up, her gaze landing on his room. “Madam Pierce, can I check his

room?”

Linda readily accepted her request and nodded in agreement. “Of course, you can. You’re his fiancée, and you’ll eventually share a room.”

At the side, Yanice overheard the conversation. How audacious of her. She wants to enter Sid’s room? He’s a clean freak, and not even I can enter his room casually. Why did Grandma allow her in

“Grandma…” Ready to speak, she noticed Linda’s gaze darkening and was abruptly ordered, “Come with

me.”

Confused, she followed Linda, even taking her clothes back from Christine’s hands.

The two arrived in Linda’s room, where the lady sat on a handmade bamboo chair with a solemn expression on her aged face. “From now on, stay away from Melissa. She isn’t as simple and kind- hearted as you think. And be polite to Christine. She’ll be part of our family!”

She knew that her granddaughter, Yanice, had a naive and easily influenced mind, unable to discern right and wrong. If she did not provide guidance, Yanice would be easily manipulated without even realizing it.

As Yanice had never been scolded so harshly, tears welled in her eyes as she asked pitifully, “Grandma, Mel is such a gentle person. Why don’t you like her and insist on having Sid marry a country bumpkin?”

“Just listen to me and stop questioning!” The frustrated Linda tapped her cane against the ground in exasperation. It was tormenting for her when one person after another refused to listen to her.

Yanice wiped away her tears and stubbornly declared, “I won’t do it! I’ll never acknowledge her as my sister–in–law!” With that, she turned around indignantly and stormed off.

Watching her miserable departing figure, Linda sighed in distress. “If it weren’t for us, Christine would’ve been able to reunite with her biological parents. But my grandchildren keep rejecting her. I’ve truly wronged her… It breaks my heart.”

Howard noticed and quickly consoled her. “Perhaps it’s because they aren’t familiar with each other yet?

especially since Miss Morgan has recently arrived. Give them some time, and things will be better?

She composed herself and nodded, holding onto the hope that things would improve.
