The Sage of Masterminds

Chapter 7 His Parents Died from Divination

Upstairs, Linda had already woken up. She carefully opened the door and peered outside. However, her mood darkened when she noticed Melissa still sitting calmly on the couch. Why hasn’t she left yet

Melissa had always publicly declared that she and Sidney were childhood friends, even proclaiming herself as his fiancée. It was only due to the longstanding relationship between the two families that the Pierce Family reluctantly showed some degree of respect.

On regular days, Linda despised her the most. If it were not for the longstanding relationship between their families, she would have driven Melissa away long ago.

As Linda continued to wait until noon, she felt weary and decided to take a nap.

In the guest room on the second floor, Christine gathered her hair into a bun and stretched lazily before stepping out. She wore strawberry pajamas, her face makeup–free with rosy lips.

“Howard, I’m awake. Is there anything to cat?” She held a bottle of yogurt, biting on the straw. Her eyes exuded a lazy charm, framed by beautifully curved eyelashes that held a touch of cool resilience, capable of enchanting anyone’s heart.

He respectfully responded, “I’ll bring you lunch right away. Please wait a moment.”

Melissa looked up upon hearing the voice. Her heart skipped a beat when she saw Christine’s tall figure and captivating appearance. She had assumed Christine to be rustic but was utterly surprised by her extraordinary temperament.

Maintaining her composure, Melissa stood up with a smile. “Mr. Freeman, may I ask who this young lady is?”

“She’s an old friend of Old Mrs. Pierce, a descendant of a renowned astrology expert. As you may know, she has always had a strong interest in this field.” With a smile, Howard smoothed things over and introduced Melissa to Christine. “Miss Morgan, this is Melissa, the daughter of the Lange Family”

Christine nodded at her. “Hello.”

This girl looks gentle and delicate, but her eyes are unusually close together and wander unpredictably. The combination of her facial features carries a hint of coquettishness. Judging from her appearance, she doesn’t seem like a submissive woman

Descending the grand staircase, she seemingly ignored Melissa while holding her small abdomen in extreme hunger. She started rummaging for food in the living room as if it were her own home, casting a casual glance at the young woman standing there. Just carry on with your business. Pretend I’m not here.”

Speechless, Melissa’s face instantly darkened. Is she asserting dominance over me

“Oh, by the way, Mr. Freeman, do we have any other casual clothes I can wear at home?”

“Yes, Miss Morgan. Are you going out?” he asked with concern. After all, Linda had repeatedly stressed the importance of preventing Christine from escaping.

Christine narrowed her eyes and stated, “I’m not fond of the pajamas Sidney prepared. I intend to go out and purchase some new pajamas and casual attire.”

The pajamas Sidney prepared… Melissa trembled all over and tightly clenched her well–manicured nails into her palm. From the sound of it, their relationship has reached a certain level of intimacy

Observing her reaction, Howard could not help but chuckle internally. He promptly addressed Christine. Miss Morgan, allow me to fetch you a set of Miss Yanice’s new clothes. You can wear them. for the time being.” With that, he went to Yanice’s room.

Realizing the situation, Christine refrained from saying anything further.

Melissa smiled faintly on the couch, and her red lips moved. “Miss Morgan, how old are you?”

“Eighteen. Christine sat casually on the couch, helping herself to the imported grapes on the fruit platter on the coffee table.

Melissa observed her uncouth behavior and frowned. “When did you start studying divination?”

“Since I was young. Primarily to earn money.”

That was the truth. Although Christine had inherited her grandmother’s mantle, her primary motivation for learning divination was to earn money. She firmly believed that if she had accumulated enough money, her parents would not have abandoned her in the first place.

“You know? Sidney despises divination. When he was young, his parents passed away due to divination. Since then, he has vowed never to engage with diviners. As Melissa finished speaking, she turned her gaze back to Christine, observing her reaction intently.

Hearing this, Christine fell into a brief silence. She was well aware that the field of divination was rife with fraudsters and con artists, often peddling meaningless predictions. However, she had never anticipated that Sidney had such a personal experience with it. No wonder he harbored such strong resistance and disgust toward her.

At that moment, Howard descended the stairs with new clothes, followed by Yanice, who strutted arrogantly. “Well, I’ll be damned. How dare a country bumpkin like you even lay your eyes on my clothes!”

She turned her head and caught sight of Melissa, who was dressed exquisitely with an elegant demeanor, visually pleasing. However, for some reason, she could not help but feel that Melissa’s appearance was slightly inferior to Christine’s.

Melissa lacks that sense of cleanliness and purity, and there is something about the combination of her facial features that seems… Yanice forcefully pushed away her thoughts. How could Mel be inferior to that country bumpkin

She affectionately leaned against her favorite sister–inlaw candidate, provocatively looking at Christine. “I advise you to pack up and leave this place as soon as possible. I only acknowledge Mel as my sister–in–law.”
