Chapter 62
Chapter 62
“I was just joking, Lucas.” Quince quickly surrendered.
The waitress looked at the two handsome men and bit her lips, smiling as she stepped aside.
“You two are so rowdy.” Leonard impatiently glared at his two arguing friends.
Benedict laughed. “Leo, shouldn’t you be celebrating now that Lisa has moved out? You never liked her anyway.”
Leonard furrowed his brows. Finally, he no longer needed to see Lisa and should be happy about it. But whenever he returned home these past few nights, he would subconsciously glance at the corner of the wall.
It used to be just him in the bedroom, but being alone now made him uncomfortable. Before falling asleep, he constantly saw images of himself slapping Lisa when he closed his eyes. He wondered if she was still hurt.
Leonard was distracted.
Lucas noticed it and teased, “Did you finally realize you kind of liked Lisa after she left?”
“Do you hear yourself?” Leonard scoffed without hesitation. “Like her? What’s there to like?”
Quince chuckled. “Yeah, yeah. You only like someone like Steph, who’s talented, gentle, and understanding.”
Leonard was speechless. He did not like Stephanie that much. At most, he had a slightly favorable impression of her compared to other women.
But recently, she had ruined it with her constant statements about being unable to live without him. Leonard even wanted to know why women could not be more independent and sensible.
Benedict asked, “Quince, aren’t you supposed to accompany your sister? Isn’t today her birthday?”
Quince lazily replied, “A group of young girls is having a party at our family’s club. Why should I go there? It’s boring. Whenever I go there, all she does is ask me about Lucas. It gives me a headache.”
Quince paused momentarily, then asked Lucas, “Why don’t you accept my sister? She’s young and beautiful, and our families are a good match. Your dad even talked to mine about becoming a family the last time he visited my place.”
“What’s wrong? Are you considering becoming my brother-in-law?” Lucas smiled ambiguously. His obsidian eyes revealed a dangerous look.
Quince let out a sheepish smile. “I didn’t say anything about you taking advantage of my sister.”
“Forget it. There’s nothing to take advantage of. Besides, I can’t handle your sister’s temper.” Lucas flicked the ash off his cigarette. “Speaking of which, has your family found your biological sister?”
As soon as he finished speaking, Leonard became curious. “It’s been three years since the search started.”
Outsiders might not know, but this group of friends had some knowledge about it.
Previously, something happened to Madison at summer camp. When she got sent to the hospital, the Fill family discovered she had a different blood type from her parents.
Upon further investigation, the doctors revealed that Debra Fill’s newborn daughter had gotten switched when Debra birthed her in another city where she worked as a voluntary teacher.
It was shocking news to the Fill family, but Madison ultimately had been their beloved daughter for over ten years. The family could not bear to abandon her then. Finally, the family decided to keep it a secret from her while they secretly searched for Debra’s biological daughter.
However, the hospital where her biological daughter was born resided in a small town, and more than ten years had passed. Many of the hospital’s records were lost, so finding Debra’s biological daughter was arduous.
“No, we haven’t.” Quince shook his head and sighed. “We found a few kids and did paternity tests, but none matched.”
Leonard casually commented, “Your mother birthed her in a small town back then. Who knows? Maybe the family that took
her is poor. I heard people living in poorer conditions favor sons over daughters. Madison lucked out.”
