The Marriage That Never Was (Leonard and Lisa )

Chapter 50

Chapter 50

Sebastian looked at Isabella with lustful eyes but still did not seem to have any feelings for her. Lisa scoffed. Earlier at noon, Lisa felt he was just using her mother as a housekeeper and that Sebastian would eventually kick her mother out if she did not prepare for it.

Lisa stayed home for dinner. However, Sebastian did not return home for dinner or even call to inform them. Instead, Isabella had to call and ask

During dinner, Norma incessantly complained about Isabella’s cooking. Lisa ignored the older woman and turned to talk to her mother. “Mom, has Sebastian been absent for dinner frequently?”

“He’s been busy with work.” Isabella smiled, but her daughter did not believe her.

Lisa prepared to leave when they finished eating, but she overheard Norma talking to Sebastian on the phone. “You ungrateful brat! I just saw the new car in the yard Lisa bought. It’s worth more than ten grand!

“I’m sure you paid for it, right? If you have money to buy a car for your stepdaughter, you might as well buy one for your older brother!”

“Just ignore her and leave,” Isabella urged, afraid her daughter would start arguing with the older woman again. Isabella pushed her daughter toward the door, saying, “When Sebastian gets home, I’ll tell him the car only cost a few thousand dollars.”

Lisa left with a heavy heart. Whenever she was in a bad mood, she would habitually want desserts, so she took a detour to her favorite cake shop to buy a cheesecake.

After returning to the Parker family’s home, she saw Alice watering the plants in the yard, but no one else was inside. She placed the cake inside the refrigerator and planned to shower first. Afterward, she would change into her pajamas and enjoy her cake.

This cake had a refreshing sensation as it came out of the fridge. Lisa knew the cake would taste delicious.

After her shower half an hour later, she washed and dried her clothes before heading downstairs. Sᴇaʀᴄh thᴇ FɪndNovᴇl.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

The TV was on in the living room, and Melissa was sitting alone on the sofa, holding a piece of cake and savoring it with relish. There was frosting at the corner of her mouth, and her usual elegance and grace were non-apparent.

Lisa was shocked. She glanced at the cake box and noticed someone had already eaten four slices.

“Mom,” Lisa asked as she pointed at the box, “You ate all the cakes?”

Melissa was embarrassed when her least favorite daughter-in-law caught her enjoying the cakes. She quickly wiped her mouth with a tissue and asked, “You bought them?”

Lisa nodded.

Surprisingly, Melissa savored the moment, saying, “The cake was good. It’s been a while since I had something so delicious.”

“Why did you eat all of it—”

Melissa cut Lisa off, “What’s wrong? Are you mad that I ate your cake?”

Melissa put on a stern face and glared at Lisa.

Lisa was stunned. “No, I remember Leonard saying you have diabetes. Are you even allowed to eat four slices of cake?”

“I don’t eat sweets so often, so occasionally having some is okay.” Melissa guiltily avoided her daughter-in-law’s gaze. However, her head started spinning as she got up. Her vision darkened, and she stiffly collapsed onto the sofa.

“Mrs. Parker!” Alice happened to enter the living room at that moment. She got startled and dropped all the fruits she was carrying.

Lisa was stunned for a brief moment but quickly strode forward. “She ate some cake just now. It probably triggered her diabetes. Quick, call an ambulance.”

Alice trembled as she fumbled for a phone to dial for an ambulance. Still, the ambulance would not just appear immediately after.
