The Marriage That Never Was (Leonard and Lisa )

Chapter 40

Chapter 40

“Yeah.” Quince agreed enthusiastically. “Don’t even get me started on blood relatives. Sometimes, I wish I could slap my siblings around.”

“That’s your opinion. Leslie and I have good personalities and tempers, so we get along perfectly,” Lisa replied.

“You have a good personality?” Leonard’s mouth twitched slightly, and his eyes were full of undisguised mockery.

Quince clicked his tongue and said, “Lisa, if you have a good personality, surely I must be graced with the virtues of a saint.”

“All right, it’s normal for girls of similar ages who live together to get along,” Lucas chuckled and asked, “Lisa, have you eaten yet?”

“Not yet.”

“Oh, you two must be the ones the manager mentioned about booking this room but couldn’t afford the bill,” Stephanie suddenly spoke.

Quince casually commented, “I’m not saying this to criticize, but why book such an expensive room if you can’t afford it?”

“We didn’t book the room. It was…”

Leslie wanted to explain, but Stephanie interrupted smilingly, “Since we’ve run into each other and are acquaintances, why don’t we share a meal? Don’t worry. You don’t have to pay.”.

She spoke as if all four men would listen to her unquestioningly. She even looked like Leonard’s wife as she stood beside him.

However, Leslie was no fool. After hearing Stephanie’s undertone, she feigned surprise and asked, “Are you Leonard’s sister?”

“I’m not. I’m—”

Leslie quickly interjected, “Oh, I thought you were his sister since you’re leaning against my sister’s husband.”

Stephanie froze and subconsciously glanced at Leonard beside her. She noticed Leonard looking at her with dissatisfaction and quickly stepped back. Sᴇaʀᴄh thᴇ (F)indNƟvᴇl.ɴet website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

Her eyes slightly reddened as she explained, “Leonard, I didn’t mean to cause a misunderstanding. I got used to it and couldn’t help but think of our past when I saw you. I forgot we broke up.”

‘Oh, she’s the ex-girlfriend, huh?’ Leslie glanced at Lisa curiously, and the latter shrugged.

Then Leonard said to Stephanie, “It’s okay.”

Tears welled up in Stephanie’s sorrow-filled eyes as she said, “I’m sorry, Lisa.”

Quince spoke up when he saw Stephanie’s pitiful appearance, “Lisa, why are you being so aggressive? Leonard wouldn’t have ignored you if you were more considerate and gentle toward him.

“Besides, Steph is his ex-girlfriend. They might’ve already married if it weren’t for the car accident. You took her place, so you should be more understanding toward her.”

Lisa retorted, “When did I become aggressive? I didn’t blame her for getting so close to my husband. It’s just that my sister has never met you guys before. Was it wrong of her to ask?”

“I’m sorry, maybe I asked the wrong question,” Leslie quickly apologized, “I was just asking out of curiosity. I didn’t intend to be hostile. Don’t blame Lisa. She didn’t say anything just now.”

Everyone was stunned and realized Lisa had indeed not said a word earlier. Instead, she was gentle, especially as Leonard’s

wife.

Leonard rubbed his temples and impatiently said, “If we’re going to eat, let’s go inside. Are we going to stand by the door forever?”
