Chapter 156 Can'T Ask For Too Much

Chapter 156 Can't Ask for Too Much

"Ding Dong!"

Just then, the doorbell rang.

Ranita immediately pushed him away and ran to answer the door. Outside stood two groups of resort staff - one delivering Brendon's luggage and the other bringing dinner.

Brendon carried his suitcase into her room without any objections from Ranita. Soon after, he emerged wearing a round-necked home outfit that softened his cold demeanor somewhat. Ranita sat at the table and called out to him, "Brendon, come eat.”

"The food may not suit your taste buds but just bear with it," said Ranita as she handed him the fork. Brendon took them and sat down next to her in silence as they ate their meal.

Someone came by shortly after to clear away their dishes.

After dinner, Brendon suggested taking a walk together, "Now that we've eaten, how about I take you for a stroll? The scenery here is quite beautiful at night." Pausing briefly before continuing on, "You can even see stars from atop the mountain.”

"You're going up there again? What if you run into bugs..." Before Ranita could finish speaking though, Brendon had grabbed hold of her hand and was gently pulling her outside.

The road was quiet with only rows of trees lining it along with bright streetlights illuminating their way forward; their shadows constantly changing shape as they walked slowly ahead together. With eyes lowered towards the ground, Ranita watched as he held onto her hand tightly.

"Brendon..."

"Look, you can see the stars for real,” Brendon suddenly looked up. Ranita followed his gaze, and though it wasn't a sky full of stars, each one shining, they adorned the firmament, calming time, as if their state of mind had suddenly changed.

“Yeah, there are quite a few," Ranita sighed softly, thinking, "This is good enough.”

She couldn't ask for more, being able to spend time like this with Brendon was already very good.

They returned to the path leading downhill, and Ranita held his hand. "Don't go up, it's tiring."

"Alright, then let's wander around here," Brendon had no intention of insisting on going uphill. He strolled with her, speaking softly and casually as they walked.

Ranita's mood was still good. "Are you really going to stay with me?" Ranita suddenly remembered something and asked Brendon, sounding unsure.

“You'll be alone here, and I'm worried about you," Brendon paused for a moment. "Or you could come with me?"

Ranita pursed her lips and smiled, "I'm not going, I like it here.” Brendon also smiled and looked relaxed. "Then I'll stay here too; it's been a long time since I took a vacation.”

They returned to the cabin after their walk. Ranita sat on the sofa to watch TV, while Brendon went to handle some work.

It was quiet and went according to plan. Ranita felt like they had returned to the time before their divorce.

A little later, it was time to sleep. The bed was large, and Ranita only slept in a small corner until Brendon pulled her from behind, holding her in his strong arms and nuzzling her chin.

The atmosphere was heating up, and Ranita's heart was racing. Just then, Brendon's phone rang. It was Shannon calling.

"Can you not answer it?" Ranita's heart suddenly turned cold.

“It might be something urgent... just for a minute,” Brendon pressed the answer button and spoke for a short while before hanging up. He turned to Ranita. "Ranita, Shannon is in some trouble. I may have to go back."

Ranita bit her lip as she looked at him. She knew that if he went, he probably wouldn't come back.

“I'l have Caleb come here, and you can tell him what you need him to do," Brendon suggested, not noticing the disappointment in her eyes. Ranita couldn't help but think, why not send Caleb to Shannon's instead? Did he have to go there himself?
