The Divorcee Who Shines

Chapter 157 Does Not Count

Chapter 157 Does Not Count

Strictly speaking, Ranita didn't have the right to interfere with Brendon's decision, but she couldn't help feeling reluctant. This reluctance had started as a small spark, but ever since Brendon had chased her to the resort, it had grown into a raging fire.

"Didn't you say you were going to stay with me?" Ranita clenched her pajamas, creating deep creases, mirroring her current state of mind. Brendon didn't look too good. "Ranita, I'm really sorry."

Ranita didn't want to hear this sentence; it was too heartbreaking. Brendon put on his shirt, sat on the edge of the bed, and covered her with the blanket. He tucked her in and told her, "Get some rest. Don't forget to apply the ointment tomorrow, and call me if you need anything.”

His sudden tenderness left Ranita even more upset. She lowered her eyes, and replied calmly, "You can go. Don't keep Miss Murphy waiting.”

Brendon left in a hurry without any luggage. Ranita was now lying on the big bed, tossing and turning, unable to sleep. Suddenly, her phone started ringing, and she turned on the light to see that it was Eve making a video call.

"Darling, are you sleeping?" Eve was half-reclining with a pretty, sulky face, the kind you'd make when someone owed you a lot of money. "Why aren't you sleeping yet?" Ranita forced a smile, trying to look more awake. "You're such an inconsiderate patient."

Eve pouted. "What about you? Why aren't you sleeping?"

“I was woken up by you," Ranita paused before asking, "why are you calling me so late? Is something wrong?"

There was silence on Eve's end for a few seconds before she spoke again. "Have you seen the trending news?"

“No, what's going on?" Ranita could already guess it had something to do with Shannon and Brendon.

"Shannon got hit by a car and is at Tranquil Valley Private Hospital... Brendon is with her." Eve spoke softly, as if sighing. "I just wanted to let you know so that you don't go looking at the news online."

“It's a good thing you're not in Kurima now, so you don't have to see Shannon's complaining face. You can stay at Moon Mountain for a few more days," Eve suggested.

Shannon was quite the hypochondriac, complaining of various aches and pains every day, always finding something to be wrong. There was never a day of peace.

Ranita responded with an acknowledgment.

"Don't just say yes, you have to follow through!" Eve clicked her tongue. "I'm afraid you'll be upset if you actually watch it."

“I'l be fine." She was used to it by now; her heart felt like it was made of steel and couldn't be hurt easily.

"Good! Once your divorce from Brendon is finalized, I'll introduce some handsome guys for you... there are plenty of two-legged men out there even if three-legged frogs are hard to come by."

"Uh-huh... got it." Ranita obediently agreed before chatting for a bit longer with Eve before hanging up.

She lay back down on the bed and scrolled through various apps on her phone until she opened Twitter. The top trending topic was "Shannon hospitalized after being hit by car”, followed closely by "Shannon's non-celebrity boyfriend"...

The rest of the topics were all related as well.

Each one had high levels of engagement; especially under the topic about Shannon's boyfriend where there were blurry photos but he still looked tall and handsome - definitely someone who would turn heads. Ranita accidentally landed on Brendon's photo while scrolling through them all which caused her heartache like someone had pinched it tightly between their fingers.

Compared to Shannon, she always seemed like the loser - never important enough for promises made towards her to hold any weight because they could be broken at any moment without consequence.
