Sanctuary

Chapter Bring Down The Sky

The airship carrying Syl, Dex, Anya, Ashe and Wes arrived at the artificial sky control station, they all jumped off the airship onto the landing pad. As they did, several cultists ran out from the control tower and opened fire, Dex cast a protective shield in front of the team.

"Me and Syl will head into the control building, if you guys don't mind holding the fort here" Dex explained.

"We can hold them off, plus back up will arrive soon" Ashe acknowledged, as she summoned her Celestial Weapon. Syl nodded.

"Call us if you need assistance" He smiled.

"Got it" Ashe nodded

Syl and Dex ran ahead, making short work of the cultists and headed inside the control building. The lights inside the building had been shut off.

"I see we have company" A female voice chuckled over the tannoy. "Greetings, Syl Luna" They said ominously.

"How does she know my name?" Syl asked.

"I mean, you are pretty famous" Dex shrugged. "Don't pay attention, she's trying to get inside your mind" He added. Syl sighed and nodded.

The two carried on down the corridor, which had Crystech logos on the wall, the only remaining memory of the inventor of the artificial sky that remained in the facility.

"It wouldn't surprise me to find out Rychard is involved" Dex sighed.

"We never did find him, huh?" Syl pondered. "We should expect the unexpected if he is here" He nodded. The two finally reached the stairwell that lead to the main control room, awaiting them was Marin, with her Celestial Twin Blades.

"Syl Luna" She frowned.

"Who are you? Why do you know my name?" Syl grunted.

"One word, Avadey" Marin said, as she gripped the twin blades. Syl was taken aback momentarily, before regaining his composure.

"If you want revenge leave the others out of it" Syl said. "Just take me and leave" Syl said as his Celestial Weapons faded.

"I'll take you..." Marin began, before lunging at Syl. In a split second, Dex parried her attack with his bare hand, before kicking her backward, she fell backward into the control panel, changing the weather to heavy rain. Marin stumbled back to her feet, looking at Dex.

"What... are you?" She asked, stunned.

"I'm Dex" Dex shrugged, as he stepped forward.

"Wait!" Marin said, taking a remote detonator from her pocket. Syl and Dex took a step back upon seeing what she had in her hand.

"Are you mad? You'll kill us!" Syl shouted.

"I died the day my husband died. The day you came to my city and destroyed it. Now you will pay with the lives of the people of Sanctuary!" She yelled, pressing the detonator.

As the button was pressed, hundreds of charged across the dome like structure went off, sending shards falling toward the city. Arranthian roared upon seeing the shards and flew between the sky and the city, taking the brunt of the damage. Huge chunks of glass pierced the dragon's back as he roared in pain.

The true sky was revealed and it had fallen to pitch black, with the only lights illuminating the darkness, being those of the city. The control centre began creaking under the pressure.

"Get inside! Quick!" Anya shouted as the team broke off from fighting the cultists and ran inside. Ashe and Wes barricaded the door as the building fell toward the city below.

Outside the walls of the city, dozens of creatures began attacking, the laser cannons dispatched most, but a number of them breached the walls. At that moment the shrill screech of a Demonhawk could be heard, rendering the city in silence. The Demonhawk flew through the darkness toward the city.

Arranthian struggled to his feet, and stared the Demonhawk down, it was of a similar size to himself.

"For those who died for my petty revenge. I give my life. For a brighter tomorrow!" Arranthian roared, as he spoke, sigils lit up across his body, and he jumped into the air and flew at the Demonhawk, several smaller Terrorhawk's also joined the fray, but Arranthian dispatched them with little effort.

Arranthian battled the Demonhawk just outside the borders of the city, in seconds a horde of Fiends crawled all over the Great Dragon.

"FOR CRYSTALLA!" He yelled, the sound breaking glass across the city. The sigils lit so bright that they vaporised most of the Fiends nearby. The Demonhawk was left with only one wing, and fell to the ground as the light that Arranthian had become faded into nothing.

Silence fell over the city.
