Chapter Why Is He So Nice?
The voice behind me sounded vaguely familiar. I turned around to see who it was and found that it was the person called Pathfinder, he seemed rather happy to see me.
“Ah, Red it’s good to see you out and about... When I said free time in your quarters I didn’t meant to walk around but it doesn’t seem like you’ve bothered anyone... So, can I ask, how did you get out of your room?” He seemed really calm about it so I went ahead and told him about the guy that removed the straps and how he vanished and then told him about the two people that hit me with the door.
“Hmm I wonder who that man was... Well I apologize about the two hooligans they’re the reason I’m down here. Our senior officer was chasing them down but it seems his age is finally getting to him. They’re being processed now so my attention is no longer required; would you like me to take you to the lounge? I didn’t know what a lounge was at the time and just nodded my head, he motioned me to follow so I did.
I didn’t know how to navigate that place and I still don’t to this day, but we did end up somewhere in the building and he opened a door. The room was kind of empty. I just looked up at the pathfinder.
“Well it seems everyone’s at work right now. Someone might pop by later but I guess you can just sit around for now. I have things to attend to so I will be back once I’m finished with it.” He lightly pushed me in the room and closed the door.
Well I didn’t have anything else to do so I walked around the room. There were several chairs a table three couches and was rather large. After I finished looking the furniture I noticed a man behind a large bar washing a glass, he glanced over at me and seemed rather happy.
“Hey, I haven’t seen you around, you new here?” I walked over to him and nodded my head. “Shy, ah understandable. My names Jonathon, I work in here, if you want you can just call me John. So, what’s your name?” I told him my name and he let out a small laugh. “Well the name suits you, I don’t see people with true red eyes often, maybe once or twice out of my whole time working here; any other time it’s just someone who pulled an all-nighter. So, you look rather young I’m going to guess you’re one of the NightTides?”
I didn’t know what a NightTide was so I had to ask him what that meant. He seemed puzzled for a second but was willing to explain. “Oh, you don’t know? Well now how do I explain this properly... Right then the best way to describe a NightTide would be a genetically modified human, well in a sense let me pull up your file and I can tell you what you fall into.” He turned around and I heard him typing on a computer for several minutes, then he put on some glasses and did what I assume would be reading it. “Ah, that is unfortunate it seems I don’t have authorization to tell you. Well I guess it’s a mystery to us both then, NightTides vary but you shouldn’t be that different from everyone else. So, would you like anything to drink? NightTides and level 3 employees are given soda and water for free, just keep it within reason we don’t want you getting sick.” I had to ask what a soda is, he laughed a little. “Well you don’t know what a lot of things are do you. Amnesia?” I nodded. “Oh! I was joking, I didn’t realize, well I’m sorry. I guess I should be a bit more mindful. Well a soda’s a fizzy sweet drink and water is what we need to survive. A soda is ok every once in a while, but you got to make sure to drink enough water as well.” I just asked for a water and he poured it into a clear glass.
