Chapter Shattered Bonds
Madilynne's P.O.V
As soon as I said that, Cassie was huffing and storming out of the room. Shouldering her way past me in the process. Inciting yet another growl from me.
“Honestly I don’t understand why she won’t let this go.” I said looking at Kade.
“Yeah, that might be my fault.” Kade said as he ran a hand down his face. What was I missing here?
Kade let out a breath “We use to Date. I didn’t think I had a second chance mate..” Oh. Now I get it. Jealous ex-girlfriend. Now it makes sense.
Meditate. Breath in, breath out. Focus on your heartbeat. The thought of Cassie wrapped around Kade sent rage boiling through my veins. I could feel willow pushing for control.
I will not lose control over this, It’s fine. Everything is fine.
“Madi?” Kade questioned.
Slamming my fists on the table in front of me “Damnit Kade, you could’ve warned me! That jealous she-wolf pushed me off a damn cliff for God’s sake!” My voice came out more wolf-like than human.
“You’re right, and I’m sorry.” Kade’s posture slumped into the chair.
“Time to go!” Avi’s voice carried from the other room.
“I’m going to ride with Avi. I’ll see you around.” I said turning my back to Kade and walking out of the room. I didn’t bother to wait for a response.
The drive to school was silent. Avi didn’t pry as to what was wrong, silently I thanked her for it. I really didn’t want to talk right now.
Walking into the high school was just like any other, Guys hollered obnoxiously at any girl that passed them. While most girls were concerned with how their make-up looked, even though they had just applied it. The only difference was, this high school was full of shifters from what Avi told me.
I followed Avi to the office to get a list of what classes I had.
After getting the class list, I stepped into the hall only to have the list ripped from my hands. “Oh! Let me see! Do we have any classes together!” Avi shouted as she raked her gaze down the small list. I watched as Avi’s face fell to a frown. “Darn we only have homeroom together.”
“Yeah I figured, I finished all my required classes last year.” I shrugged.
“Seriously? Lucky! Well, I’ll show you around before the bell rings.” Avi dragged me further down the hall.
In the middle of the tour, a pain erupted from my chest making me cry out in pain and forcing me to my knees. The mark Kade and I shared was on fire, ‘Willow!’ Her whimpers were tearing me apart from the inside. Gods What is happening!
“Madi I need you to breathe, tell me what’s wrong so I can help.” Avi spoke.
Ignoring Avi I tried to reach willow again. Something is wrong.
‘Mate.. Mate is..’ Willow whimpered.
‘He’s what damnit!’ I ground out between the pain.
‘Mate is no longer ours.’ As soon as willow whispered that, the mark felt like it completely combusted. Gasping, I clawed my own chest for air.
No. He wouldn’t.
‘Kade’
My plead was met with silence.
Avi wrapped her arms around me as I cried. “Madi, please. What’s wrong?”
“Kade.. Our bond has been destroyed.” I whispered out.
I could feel Avi suck in a breath “God’s, He wouldn’t..”
“I can’t feel him anymore Avi. I don’t understand.” I cried harder into her embrace.
Cassie.
The sudden realization struck me like lightning. Instantly sobering my cries. Standing I turned to Avi “I have to go.”
“Wait! Madi! I’m coming with you!” Avi’s voice grew smaller as I barreled out of the school and into the Forrest that sat behind it.
The second my paws hit the earth I let out a howl mixed with anger and sorrow. This was not happening. It can’t be.
Running, I could hear Avi behind me at a distance. Nearing the Packhouse, A howl broke off in the distance. Stopping in my tracks I snapped my gaze to Avi ‘What’s happening!’
‘A rogue has breached our territory, we need to get inside! Now!’ Avi yelled into my mind.
Both of us took off into a sprint, growing closer to the house.
Almost reaching the steps a deep growl came from behind us, both of us stopping dead in our tracks.
‘Avi, get inside!’
‘No! I’m not leaving you out here alone!’
’God’s Avi! Get inside! Don’t make me command you, please!
Turning to face the snarling beast that stood now in front of me, Out of the corner of my eye I watched as Avi slowly stepped into the packhouse. Leaving me alone with the Rogue.
‘Find Kade, Avi. He wouldn’t have done this.’
The beast of a wolf began to slowly circle me, I kept my eyes on his every movement. I might not have had a lot of training at this point but you bet your ass I’d fight like hell.
This was the wolf from my dreams.
Goddess.
I could see its features turn into a grin if that was even possible in this form. Snarling I made the first move, snapping my jaws at his flank.
Both of us continued to snarl and attack, missing each other by inches. Suddenly the wolf shifted.
Miles.
How the hell did he find me!
“You couldn’t honestly believe I wouldn’t find you right?” His sinister laughter echoed around us.
I stepped closer as I growled to rip his throat out like I promised I would.
“Make one more move, and this whole pack is finished. Shift.”
Holding his gaze I snarled before shifting back.
“What the hell do you want Miles, and speak fast before I kill you.”
“The only thing I’ve always wanted. You. Now you’re going to come with me, without a fight.”
“Kiss my ass Miles, I’d rather die before I willing go anywhere with you.” My growls were growing increasingly more ferocious by the second.
“See, you will. Because at this very second, The ones you care for are in that house, seconds away from their blood spilling out.” Just as he said it, I watched as rogues pushed everyone out onto the porch. Kade, Avi, Jace, and Grant. Cassie walked out behind them, free as a bird. Of course. That treacherous Bitch. Jace’s face was pained at his sister’s betrayal. Alpha Grant, mere seconds from shredding through his clothes and sinking his jaws into the closest rogue.
I snarled “Let them go Miles!” Stepping closer towards them, the rogues gripped them in a tighter hold. Pressing silver knives to their throats. I could hear their flesh burn and sizzle from the small contact. Think Madi, think.
Making eye contact with Kade I could see how furious he was. The pain reflecting my own, as my gaze traveled to his neck. The angry burn was still fresh. They burned it off. The markings resembled to Katie’s.
Snapping my eyes back to Miles “I’ll go with you, But spare this pack.”
“Deal”
“Madi no!” Kade shouted, his angry voice a mixture of his wolf.
“I have to Kade, for the sake of everyone.” I smiled weakly. Forfeiting my fight, for now.
