Chapter Escaping Rogue's
Madilynne's P.O.V
‘Wait until we leave, then give them hell Avi.’ I said as Miles roughly grabbed hold of my arm, pulling me further from the packhouse. His hold digging into my skin.
‘I will Alpha.’ Avi’s voice of eagerness drifted into mine.
‘I’ll be back. Cassie is mine.’ My voice, filled with deadly intention.
“Move.” Miles barked out his command, in return, I growled back.
“I can walk without your help asshole.” I said ripping my arm out of his grip.
A group of us walked through the Forrest, nearing what I assumed to be the edge of Nightshade pack territory. A few dark SUV’s coming into view now.
Miles pushed me into one along with himself and one other man. I groaned, “You’ve really outdone yourself this time Miles.” I said while rolling my eyes and settling into the stiff seat.
“Yeah Cassie burning off that mark was the real cherry on top huh?” Miles taunted from the front seat. Snarling I made a move to wrap my hands around his throat “Ah ah ah, not so fast little wolf, this blade will end you faster than you can think of what your next move will be. I suggest you sit back and behave.” The Man beside me said while pressing the knife to my throat. I glared at the man from the corner of my eye, raising my hands in defeat. “Fine.” A sneer made its way across my lips.
Miles began the drive, to Goddess only knows where this time. How many times is this going to happen? Will I ever live a normal life? Ha. Normal, I haven’t had that since I became a shifter. Sinking into my seat further with a huff, I stared out the window watching the familiar trees grow more sparse as we drove.
At some point along the boring drive, I must have fallen asleep because I was jolted awake from the jarring movement of the car we were in. Looking out of the window I didn’t recognize anything. The trees were completely different, It looked as if we were in some kind of remote rural area. Damnit Madi, you just had to fall asleep. How the hell are we supposed to find our way home now. God’s!
Slowly the vehicle came to a stop. “Pit stop.” Miles’s annoying voice sang out. The two of them jumped out and walked to the closest tree line.
Looking around I noticed It was just us. No other vehicles and the doors were left unlocked.
‘Willow.’ I coaxed.
‘Ready when you are.’ Her voice was filled with determination.
‘What are the odds we outrun these rogues.’ I asked as I kept an eye on the two.
‘Slim, extremely slim.’ She sighed.
‘I’ll take those odds. The second I open that door we have to shift immediately and run.’ I said, the plan unfolding as I spoke.
‘Done.’
A sense of urgency and adrenaline filled my sense. We’re going to do this.
Unclipping my belt as quiet as I could, I reached for the door handle, Making sure those two idiots had their backs turned still. All clear.
Opening the door, It creaked. Loudly. Shit. Shit. Shit. Snapping my head in their direction, both now were focused on me. ‘Move!’ Willow’s voice boomed, breaking me from my temporary paralysis.
Jumping out and shifting faster than I ever have, I let Willow surge to the forefront taking over. I watched, in the back seat of my mind as we took off in a sprint, a race to save our life. I could hear the deep howls gaining from behind us as we continued our run deeper into an unknown area.
Minutes, Hours. Passed by. The sun was setting and we still haven’t been caught. We continued to run, the Forrest was eerily silent as we ran through it. God’s there has to be a pack nearby, anything. A town, something.
Scenting the air, we caught a wolf scent. It didn’t smell of death and rot. Willow and I instantly changed our direction, chasing after the scent. Please be a pack. Please.
Willow gave control back to me, and I continued to push myself harder to chase the scent.
The scent was growing stronger in the path that I was running, finally, I heard a warning howl sound off in the distance. I wanted to cry, not because I was scared, but because I might finally be safe. God’s I was so tired. I kept running in the same direction, soon I could hear thuds of paws running alongside me, still hidden in the trees.
A large Brown wolf appeared beside me on the path, running closely next to me. It wasn’t snarling or attacking, I was being guided safely. Thank the moon Goddess.
The brown wolf started to howl and yip as we ran, Narrowing my gaze as it did. The wolf seemed oddly familiar.
I could hear the others break off and run in another direction, leaving just the brown wolf and I. I racked my brain for any memory of a brown wolf. Nothing. Why did he seem so familiar?
Our run began to slow down to a light jog, and then finishing into a walk. The brown wolf turned to a tree just as we neared a small break in the Forrest, I could scent other wolves near.
I could hear the familiar pops and cracks, He was shifting. I remained planted on the path, in my wolf form. The man slowly appeared from behind the tree.
My eyes skated up along his body, Tanned and toned. Muscle everywhere. The second our eyes met, I recognized him. I shifted instantly.
“Kole!”
“Holy hell Madi, Everyone has been searching for you for weeks! Where have you been!” Kole shouted.
I wrapped myself around Kole, God’s it was a blessing to finally be around a familiar face. Wait weeks?
“Weeks? H-how? I was only gone for a few days.. shit, they must have drugged me.” I could feel the deep rumble of Koles growl as he hugged me.
“We’re going to find that bastard Madi.”
“Wait, where am I Kole?” I asked, How did weeks slip by?
“You my friend, are in Dark moon territory. North Dakota.”
