Chapter His Rejection
Madilynne's P.O.V
Kole laid on the ground, grunting for air at the sudden impact. “You son of a bitch Kade, I’m going to kick your ass!” Kole shouted. My Heightened nerves instantly taking a dive once I realized it was Kade. Rolling my eyes at the boys wrestling on the ground “Are you ladies done yet? I’d like to get this show on the road before Miles figures us out.” Both Kade and Kole pushed each other one last time before standing, Kade coming to my side and Hugging me tightly.
" We’ll need to shift, the truck is parked 5 miles from here.” Kole said before shifting. His tail ticked in eagerness to run. “Madi can’t shift out here, she’ll be spotted instantly.” Kade argued with his wolf brother. Rolling my eyes I shifted into my white wolf, finding a mud puddle from the rainstorm we had. I rolled my white fur into it, changing to a muddy color and hiding the crescent moon on my shoulder.
‘Problem solved, can we go now?’ I asked Kade the only one I now shared a connection with outside of crescent Pack. Kade groaned and shifted into His midnight black wolf, I pranced over to my mate and brushed alongside of him. Kole yipped encouraging us to move.
Kole was the leading point, My self in the center, and Kade protecting us from the back. Running further from crescent pack, My wolf shivered and whined. ‘It’ll get easier, Your wolf won’t like leaving its pack especially since you’re an Alpha Female.’ Kade’s rocky voice softened as he spoke to me.
Fighting willow inside my head was getting exhausting, she kept pushing for control. So she could run home, ‘Willow we can’t go back it’s not safe for us or the pack if we stay there.’ The animal side of me wasn’t understanding why we were leaving our pack behind. But that’s not what it was, I was trying to save them. ‘We need to go back.’ Willow argued. I snapped my jaws at her, ‘No. We can’t, we’re being hunted by a psychopath, if we stay we risk more lives. What pack would we have left if Miles continues down this path, how many more lives are worth ours, willow? You know just as well as I do he won’t stop until he’s dead. ’ The pressure inside of my head released as willow let out a low whine.
“Better?” Kade stood before me, nothing but tan, toned skin showcasing itself to me. I shifted back, “Yeah, willow didn’t understand why we were leaving, she gets it now.” I said rubbing my arms, slightly uncomfortable being completely nude in the middle of nowhere. Kade went to the other side of the truck, I could hear rustling and then he appeared in front of me holding black leggings and a hoodie. “Here love, put these on.”
“Thanks” I smiled brushing my hand against his jaw. Throwing the clothes on I noticed Kole wasn’t around. “Where’s Kole?” A moment of panic striking me, “He’s fine love, he’s waiting in the trees. We figured you might not be as comfortable being naked around others like we are.” He said while pulling on a pair of grey sweats and a black hoodie. I internally groaned as my eyes traveled, He was really filling those out. “Like what you see?” Kade said with a huge smirk plastered on his face. I could feel a warm heat creep up my neck, blushing “oh don’t act like you weren’t checking me out too Kade Michael’s” throwing my hair over my shoulder I put a bit more sway in my hips as I walked closer to the truck to get in. I could hear Kade groan as I walked away.
Both guys got in the truck finally, fully clothed. The truck was an old pickup truck, It had no back seating. I sat in the middle, Kole driving and Kade on my right. Kole started the old truck and we were pulling out onto a dirt road.
The drive was filled with tall green trees stretching upwards to the sky, blurring past us as we drove. Leaning my head on Kade’s shoulder, I sunk into his radiating warmth. My view was slightly pointed towards Kole now. He resembled Kade in so many ways, just a bit more on the rugged side. You could tell he was a bit older than Kade, he had a few more laugh lines and his eyes held more experience. I bet his mate was missing him right now. “Will your mate be coming to Nightshade pack?” I asked looking at Kole. His grip tightened on the steering wheel, turning his knuckles white, Kade tensing beside me.
“I don’t have a mate. Not anymore.” His gruff voice traveled through the small space of the truck. Anymore? “What happened?” I sat up so I could see more of Kole. Kade’s hand landed on my thigh slightly gripping me. Was I missing something? I glanced over to Kade slightly shaking his head, His eyes pleading to me not to continue.
" Look I really don’t want to talk about it.” Koles voice coming out short. I watched as he continued to look out at the road, his eyes wistful. The silence once again engulfing us. ‘What happened to his mate?’ I asked Kade through our link. I could hear his sigh inside my head ‘That’s his story to tell Madi.’
Looking over at Kole again, His expression was pained. His grip still unrelenting to the wheel in his hands. My wolf stirred inside me. I froze in my spot, God’s not again. I looked down at my hands, waiting for the knowing glow. Kade must have sensed My mood change when his hands flew to mine, ‘Madi’ I looked into the pools of emerald green, ‘He needs my help, Kade. Please.’ Kade slowly nodded his head and let go of my hands. My skin began to hum, turning to Kole “Stop the truck.” Kole looked at me with his eyebrows in a wrinkle. “Why? We’re almost there.” I rolled my eyes. “Kole just stop the truck, I need to do something. Now.”
“Fine.” Kole grumbled out, pulling the truck off onto the shoulder of the dirt road, and shutting off the engine. I reached out to Kole, placing a hand on each of his arms once the truck was shut off. “Kade, what is she doing? Her eyes are glowing.” His tone was wary. “Healing.” Kade said from behind me. I could feel the warmth stretching out between Kole and I, wrapping around him. A tightness in my chest slowly starting to build, I braced myself, knowing I wouldn’t be prepared for what was coming.
‘I’ll help, maybe this time we won’t pass out.’ Willows soft voice spoke. Suddenly wave after wave of sadness, and then anger was crushing my senses. My grip on his arms tightening. Flashes of Kole at a younger age were passing in front of me, then it was like I was seeing and feeling everything through his eyes. Rejection. I could feel the heartbreak when she spoke those words, ‘I Kassandra Woods, Reject you, Kole Michael’s, as my mate.’ The pain of his heartbreak stole my breath as it hit me, I could feel the tears streaming down my cheeks now. Still, I held on. Next came the anger, It coursed through me like a wildfire. Betrayal and rejection buried deep within. Slowly it started to let up, no longer gripping my heart so tightly. My vision started to blur, Blackness dancing across. Damnit not again. ‘Catch me Kade.’
‘Always love.’ His warm voice, so comforting floated into my mind.
‘Lights out willow, you tried.’ I said, my voice husky, sleep wrapping around me as I drifted off in my mind.
