Chapter 129
Chapter 129 Maxwell Comes
Camila was about to speak. At that moment, Dewitt woke up.
She quickly closed her eyes.
Dewitt looked at a face that was almost identical to Daniela’s. He suddenly felt that maybe this was God’s way of
compensating him. He had already lost Daniela, so he couldn’t lose Camila anymore.
“Camila, let me protect you from now on,” Dewitt reached out and gently touched Camila’s cheek. The cool sensation made him feel like he had regained something he had lost.
Suddenly, the door was forcefully pushed open. Maxwell, with a chilling aura, stood at the doorway.
He went through a night of desperate searching and finally, at dawn, he received a call from the police station, informing him that the assailant who had beaten Camila had been taken into custody.
He only found out about Camila’s whereabouts and rushed over without stopping, but unexpectedly witnessed such a
scene.
Dewitt stood up and walked out. The two men faced each other in silence for over ten seconds.
The first one to speak was Dewitt.
“Where were you when she was being beaten last night?” Dewitt interrogated, “Do you know how dangerous it was for
her last night? If she had been brought in any later, the consequences would have been unimaginable.“”
Dewitt became more and more frightened as he thought
about it.
“If you couldn’t take care of her, then it’s better to divorce her sooner. She owes you money, and I will help her repay you.”
Maxwell was laughed at.
“Did you not wake up yet? You were talking in your sleep in broad daylight.”
“I didn’t talk in my sleep. I was serious,” Dewitt said solemnly.
“I warned you not to have any ideas about Camila. She is not a replacement for Daniela,” Maxwell’s face turned ominously dark.
“Just because of you, can you stop me?” Dewitt looked at Maxwell suspiciously. He had a feeling that this man in front of him was not as simple as he appeared.
But no matter who, nobody could stop his determination to get Camila.
“You can try if you don’t believe.” Maxwell pushed the door open and saw Camila reaching out to grab the glass placed by the bedside.
Maxwell quickly placed the water cup into Camila’s hand.
Camila took a sip of water and felt that her throat wasn’t as sore anymore.
As soon as Camila spoke, her voice was still hoarse.
“How did you find your way here?” Camila looked at Maxwell as if he had become much more haggard overnight.
“Did Samson do it?” Maxwell’s gaze was sinister. It seemed like he had already planned how to tear Samson apart.
“Yes, he also took away my phone.”
As the words fell, Maxwell handed Camila her phone.
“Don’t worry. He was caught by the police and was taken to the detention center last night.”
“What would he do?” Camila asked.
“Are you still worried about him?” Maxwell frowned unhappily.
“I’m just asking. Since the day we broke up, I haven’t wanted anything to do with him, let alone worry about him,” Camila said.
“The doctor said that your head had suffered a severe impact and you need to rest. Don’t think too much, it affects your mood.”
“Oh, okay,” Camila thought to herself, needing to use the restroom at this moment. However, Maxwell was here and she couldn’t conveniently go. So she said, “You still have to work today, right? You don’t need to worry about me here. Dr. Booker is taking care of me. You can go ahead and be busy.”
“I feel at ease only when he is around,” Maxwell sat on the edge of the bed, took out his phone to order food for Camila. “What would you like for breakfast?”
“I couldn’t eat anything. I wanted to be alone. You can go back.”
“What?” Maxwell pretended not to understand.
Camila couldn’t bear it anymore.
“Maxwell, I need to use the bathroom. Can you please leave?”
