Chapter 5
It’s now around midnight, once I got to my room I decided to read. I knew I was unable to go to sleep. Something was seriously wrong. I was on guard a lot more than usual. Yes with father saying there was a likelihood of an attack could be the cause but it was something else.
Something sinister was coming, I felt like I had ants running across my body. Something was watching me or was it something different?
I decided I would feel safer if I grabbed one of my small hidden knives in one of the books. I had several fake books around my bookcase that hid an assortment of items usual for protection.
I grabbed a small dagger pretending just to be looking at the book, I slid the small knife down my sleeve to hide it, I then put my book back. I did this a couple of times with real books to make it seem believable.
I finally picked up a book and went to sit back down, moving some books out of my way to be able to sit. I could still feel the penetrating gaze of someone watching me. I assumed they were outside somewhere near my balcony.
The wind picked up, the leaves outside fluttered in the wind. The gaze had disappeared by the time the gush of wind had stopped. I was on guard all night, I knew no-one was watching, but I knew something was going to happen.
In Fact nothing happened, I didn’t get a wink of sleep the whole night. Constantly getting up and changing books whenever I got interested in one. I didn’t want any of my senses to be focused on the book. I did for a bit write a short entry into my book but with being so on guard I couldn’t sit still.
By the morning I had huge bags underneath my eyes. It was time for breakfast, so I changed my clothes into a nice blue dress and headed down for the morning meal. Putting on some light makeup to cover my bags.
It was a normal breakfast with the air more heavy than normal. Father decided to not grace us with his presents. I looked around, noticing most of the mothers weren't present along with their children. Johnny and Savannah aren’t present.
Dinner slowly came around, I opened my bedroom and started walking out, before I could even step one foot out, I got tackled to the ground while simultaneously having my mouth covered. I try kicking my attacker, and turning left and right to get out of their grasp. I prepare to bite down on the hand that covers my mouth when Quarry whispers in my ear ” Calm the hell down it’s just me, and be quiet!” He says in a harsh but shush tone.
He slowly gets off of me as I calm down, and takes his hand away from my mouth. He half drags me back into my room swiftly but quietly slamming the door shut. How do you even quietly close a slamming door I don’t know but he did it.
He quickly looks around ignoring my questions on what is happening. He looks toward my wall of stuffed animals and walks towards them. Quickly feeling around before he finds my hidden knife collection. How he knew they were there was beyond me, and didn’t cut himself.
He threw me a knife and caught it by the hilt barely. I finally understand the calamity of the situation and finally get down low. Trying to be quiet we go into my closet and throw on dark clothing over our other clothes not having the time to change.
We hear multiple loud thumps as footsteps go running past our doorway out in the hall. A few seconds later the mansion is filled with an ear splintering scream that stops half way through. I instantly recognize the scream as our fourth mother. Now the whole house if they didn’t already know we were under attack.
It is now every man for themselves. You shouldn’t trust anybody. But at this point I trust my brother with my life just as much as he does with me.
We were stuck debating whether to go out the window or sneak through to the front door. If we go outside the window there will most definitely be either a family member or an enemy which we want to run into neither.
We quickly made up our mind as we heard the shattering of glass. We both look at eachother with no words we both come to agreement.
