Chapter 5

Chapter “Why are you here?” I demanded.
Logan had assured me he was taking the day off to stay with Mia at the hospital, so I felt comfortable going to the office to catch up on work.
Bella smiled, her eyes glinting with false sincerity. “Logan had to meet his boss about something urgent, so he asked me to come and help take care of Mia.”
Suppressing my anger, I replied, “Thank you for your help. You can leave now.”
“Chloe, I’m here out of goodwill to look after your daughter, and this is how you treat me?” she said.
“Goodwill?” I laughed bitterly. “Do you think I don’t see through your act?”
Just then, Harry jumped up from the bed and kicked me hard.
“My mom says you won’t let Uncle Logan be my dad! You’re a bad woman!”
Harry, a year older than Mia, wasn’t strong enough to hurt me with his kick.
But I didn’t let it slide. I slapped his legs away and then grabbed his arm, lifting him off the bed.
Terrified, Harry’s eyes welied up with tears.
Bella dropped the fruit she was holding and screamed, “Chloe, how dare you bully my son?”
“If you don’t teach your child manners, don’t blame others for disciplining him!”
Bella’s face twisted with rage as she spat out, “My son is better than your daughter in every way! Your daughter’s just a burden! How dare you act so high and mighty?”
I could tolerate insults aimed at me, but I wouldn’t stand for anyone talking about Mia that way.
I raised my hand to slap Bella just as Logan walked in.
“What’s going on here?” he shouted.
Before my hand could strike, Bella fell into Logan’s arms, perfectly timing her collapse for him to catch her.
Crying and trembling, she said, “Logan, I shouldn’t have meddled. I only wanted to help…”
Logan had been trying to win my forgiveness these past few days.
But at this moment, he suddenly dropped his pretense and turned on me.
“Chloe! You really don’t appreciate anything!,
“If you don’t apologize to Bella right now, we’re done!”
His voice was full of determination, as if standing up for Bella was his greatest purpose.
I almost laughed at his arrogance.
“Logan, what fantasy world are you living in?” I said with disdain. “You think you can give me orders for another woman?”
“If it weren’t for Mia still being in the hospital and me not wanting to upset her, do you think I’d even look at you? You’re a joke!”
Logan’s face contorted with anger. “Fine, Chloe. Don’t regret this!”
He snapped, picking up, Harry and taking Bella’s hand before storming out of the ward.
Finally, silence returned.
Mia’s soft voice broke through the quiet. “Mom, don’t be sad. You still have me.”
Her words shattered the calm facade I had been holding onto. I hugged her tightly, tears streaming down. my face.

Chapter 5.2
“Mom, it was Harry and Aunt Lin who were mean first. Dad is so dumb,” Mia said, wiping my tears away.
“I don’t want Dad here. He just talks to Bella and Harry all day. He doesn’t care about me. He didn’t even notice when I dropped my medicine.”
“I don’t like Harry and Bella either.” she added.
“Harry ate my fruit and called me unwanted. Bella said I was a burden and ugly.”
I clenched my fists, furious at how much Mia had suffered in my absence.
I clenched my fists and comforted Mia, “Don’t worry, sweetheart. I won’t let them hurt you again.”
After Mia was discharged, it was summer vacation. I asked if she wanted to stay with my parents for a while, and she was delighted.
She loved her grandparents and was happy to be with them.
During this time, I kept pushing Logan to finalize our divorce, but he always found excuses to delay.
One day, while I was packing to spend the New Year holiday with my parents, Bella showed up at my house uninvited.
She stood at the door, smug and brazen. “I came to see my future home. Once you and Logan are divorced, I’ll be the lady of this house.”
She was so proud, as if her victory was assured.
To me, she was nothing but a clown.
“Didn’t Logan tell you? This house is mine,” I said coolly.
“But since you’re here, tell Logan to let me know when he’s ready to finalize the divorce. I’m done waiting.”
Bella left, and her face contorted with anger.
Later, while I was at my parents‘ house with Mia, painting, I got a call from a friend.
She worked with Logan and mentioned that he had been distracted and underperforming at work, which led to a warning from his boss.
It wasn’t hard to guess why. Bella must have flipped out when she found out Logan didn’t own our house.
After a week’s vacation, I returned home to find the lights on.
Fearing a break–in, I opened the door cautiously, only to find Logan, Bella, and Harry comfortably settled in my living
