Chapter 4
Chapter 4.1
We arrived at the hospital quickly, and Mia was rushed to the emergency room. I waited anxiously, praying for Mia’s safety.
Time seemed to drag on minute by minute until the doctor finally emerged.
He reassured me that Mia had been brought in just in time and was now stable.
I let out a deep sigh of relief, feeling some of the tension release from my body.
Just then, Logan and Bella arrived at the hospital.
Seeing Bella’s feigned innocence and hypocritical expression, my anger boiled over. Without thinking, I surged forward and slapped her hard across the face.
Bella cried out, tears of feigned grievance streaming down her cheeks.
Logan, furious, turned on me. “You didn’t watch Mia properly, so why are you blaming Bella? How can you be a mother like this?”
I pointed at Bella, who stood beside him, shaking with false innocence. “She did it on purpose! She gave Mia the bread with mango filling!”
Bella vehemently denied it, shaking her head.
Logan’s eyes filled with disgust as he looked at me.
“Chloe, I can’t believe you. You’re framing Bella to shirk responsibility!”
I was stunned that my husband of seven years could say such words.
“Logan, do you think I would joke about our daughter’s life?”
“We’ve been together for seven years, and you believe her over me?”
Logan said nothing but continued to shield Bella behind him.
I looked at them, and my heart no longer ached. Instead, I felt a wave of nausea.
At that moment, a nurse wheeled Mia out of the emergency room. I dropped everything and ran to her side. Mia had woken up, though her face was still pale.
She pouted, her eyes red, and said softly, “Mom… I don’t feel good…”
“Mom’s here, Mia. You’re going to be fine. Don’t be scared…”
Logan approached the bedside and, in a blaming tone, said, “Mia, you can’t just eat anything you want. Don’t you you’re allergic to mangoes?”
Mia immediately burst into tears. “Bella gave it to me. She said the jam in the bread was delicious…”
I couldn’t hold back anymore. I slapped Logan hard right in front of Mia.
Logan was stunned by iny blow.

I yelled, “Logan, how can you be so heartless? Mia just escaped a life–threatening situation, and all you care about is defending this woman?”
“Do you believe me now? If you don’t trust me, do you at least believe your own daughter?”
By now, the nurses nearby had started to whisper and point at Logan.
“What kind of father is he?”
“Bringing his affair into the hospital, how brazen!”
Finally, Bella hesitated and admitted, “I gave Mia the bread, but I didn’t know she was allergic to mangoes…
“You’re lying!” I snapped. “Last time you visited, you brought a bag of mangoes. When I returned them, I told you Mia was allergic! You knew and still gave her the bread with mango jam on purpose!”
Bella bit her lip, struggling to hold back her tears, and said softly, “Logan, I really don’t remember Chloe telling me about Mia’s allergy…”
Logan looked torn. His voice softened as he turned to me.
“Chloe, I’m sorry, I was too quick to judge you. But Bella didn’t mean any harm. She came to me as soon as Mia got sick. She cares about Mia too…
Watching the two of them act in unison, I felt a surge of disgust. Arguing with them was pointless, especially when Mia needed to rest.
I struggled to keep my composure and ordered them out of the room.
For the next few days, Logan came to the hospital every day to be with Mia.
I didn’t stop him. Despite everything, he was still her father and had a duty to care for her.
One day, after rushing to the hospital from work, I found Bella and Harry in Mia’s room.
Harry was comfortably perched on Mia’s hospital bed, watching TV, while Bella peeled an apple and fed it to him bite
by bite.
Mia lay there, looking hurt and neglected, as if no one cared about her at all.
