Chapter 85
Her luck was so bad that she had no strength to fight it back.
She turned around and tried to pull her dress away. But when she moved, she found that there seemed to be a dull pain under her feet. She moved a little bit and squatted down to remove her dress from the iron wire.
By this time, the rain was getting heavier, but she did not even have the strength to run anymore. She only felt extremely sad!
At this moment, a black car stopped at the side of the road.
By the time Frederick found her, he had already looked around twice. The rain was pouring. Therefore, he did not find her in the first two times. When he got out of the car, he was furious. "Alicia, where have you been?"
Alicia turned around and realized that it was Frederick. It was as if she had seen a savior. She didn't notice his angry face at all. Alicia rushed over. She did not care how dirty she was. She threw herself into his arms and burst into tears.
"Hubby-"
Only then did she notice how dirty and tired she was. The moment he held her, his anger was replaced by inexplicable calmness.
Frederick held her tightly with one hand. Seeing how miserable she was, his voice softened a little, "It's okay now!"
He gave her his umbrella and took off his suit jacket before wrapping it around her cold body. Then, he raised his hand to wipe her dirty face. "Silly! Get into the car first!"
At this moment, Frederick realized how worried he was! When he saw her in person, he knew that nothing else mattered as much as this.
When they got into the car, he saw that her nose and eyes were red. Frederick took a tissue and wiped her face.
"What happened? Why did you turn off your phone? Didn't I tell you to wait here? Where did you go this time?"
Why were her clothes torn?
It would have been fine if he did not mention it. As soon as he asked, the grievance in her heart rose, and her tears flowed again. She could not stop crying no matter what.
At this time, a car horn sounded. Frederick patted the back of her head to comfort her as he fastened her seatbelt.
"Okay, okay, let's not talk about it. Let's go home first!"
Along the way, Alicia's mood was somewhat unstable. From time to time, she would sob once or twice. However, the two of them did not say anything.
After returning to the Clements family home, the rain became heavier. Their barbecue plan was completely cancelled, and it was replaced by an indoor barbecue.
As soon as they entered the door, Alicia followed Frederick. She hung her head as she felt a little depressed.
Mrs. Clements heard the sound and came out instantly. "Are you back? What happened?"
"It's okay. We got wet from the rain!" Frederick said. He was afraid that his grandmother would get worried.
"I didn't ask you!" Mrs. Clements replied. She rolled her eyes at him as she was clearly angry at him.
Alicia took a step forward and said, "I'm sorry, Grandma. It's all my fault. I was mischievous and got lost by accident. I've made you worried!"
"It's fine as long as you are alright!" Seeing that she had taken the blame on herself, Mrs. Clements glared at Frederick.
At this time, Hallie came down from upstairs. When she saw this scene, she looked at Alicia with a disgusted look.
"Hey, who did you go out with? Why are your clothes torn? You are too arrogant. The whole family is waiting for you to start dinner! Even if you weren't coming back, don't you know how to call in advance? You are so ill-mannered! You even got someone to pick you up!"
Hallie grumbled. Her voice was neither loud nor low, but everyone could hear it.
Upon being scolded by another person, Alicia huddled up behind Frederick. She felt very uncomfortable, but she also knew that it was her fault. Subconsciously, she wanted to apologize. "I'm-"
Before she could say anything, a cold voice spoke, "I like her like this! I'm the one who wanted to pick her up! No one asked you to wait either!"
Frederick hugged Alicia. It seemed like Frederick was protecting her. In an instant, Alicia was surprised and felt a sense of warmth and protection that she had not felt for a long time.
"What! I was just feeling sorry for you... You, you really are ungrateful! No one loves you, and you deserve it!" Hallie shouted back. How dare he protect an outsider. How dare he scold her in front of so many people.
Hallie was so angry that she was speaking incoherently!
All of a sudden, Mrs. Clements' face fell. "What are you talking about?"
"Grandma, I was wrong!"
Hallie seemed to have realized something. She bowed her head and pitifully tugged Mr. Clements' sleeve. "Dad, dad, I... I was worried about Frederick. I..."
Mr. Clements said, "Mom, Halley is just frank and outspoken. She did not mean it! Don't take it to heart!"
Penny quickly walked forward and pulled Hallie aside. She pinched her as a warning.
"From now on, do not meddle with my woman!" Frederick scolded.
His cold eyes glanced at the Clements family. Obviously, Frederick's words were not only directed at Hallie!
When he looked back at his grandmother, his whole attitude changed.
"Grandma, I'll take Alicia up to change clothes first. All of you should eat first! We might need some time!"
"Go! Take a shower. Don't catch a cold!" she answered.
Then, Alicia followed Frederick back to the bedroom.
When the door of the bedroom was closed, Alicia got very embarrassed. It was all because of her that there was such a commotion. Seeing that Frederick's face was gloomy, she went forward and held his hand.
'Tm sorry. It's all my fault. I've embarrassed you!"
"You fool!" He pinched her face and said with rare gentleness, "You are so dirty right now. Take a shower and change your clothes! Don't catch a cold!"
In fact, such unhappy scenes would still happen frequently even without her.
He was used to it. In the past, no matter what Hallie murmured, he would pretend that he did not hear her. He did not want to argue with her. But this, he could not bear it at all! "Okay..." she said.
So many things had happened unexpectedly and Alicia was still confused. She turned around and took her clothes before going into the bathroom.
After washing herself, Alicia changed into casual clothing. She wore a T-shirt with long trousers. She looked clean and her long hair was straight. It made her look young and petite.
She walked out of the bathroom and Frederick had changed his clothes as well. He brought a glass of milk into the room.
"Didn't you... didn't you despise me for acting like a child because I like to drink milk?" she wondered. Why did he bring milk for her?
She recalled what had happened in the morning, and Alicia's eyes dimmed again. This was indeed an unlucky day. Everything had gone wrong since morning!
Seeing how pitiful she was, Frederick held her hand and stuffed the milk into her hand. "You can drink the milk I've heated it up for you."
He bought the milk from the club. How could it be the same? He remembered how she was stopped from drinking her favorite milk earlier in the morning. He did not know why he thought of this when he was talking to a client. Therefore, he deliberately took two packets of milk with him when he left the club. He even personally heated it for her!
Alicia did not understand his intention. She thought that he was moody because he was hungry. She took the glass and gulped it down. She was
warmed up instantly.
"Tell me, what happened earlier on?"
