Chapter 10
Ava decided to find out what this summons is about. Grabbing her keys and bag then grabbed the bus to downtown. She walked the rest of the way to the office building that looks like any other building on the block.
In the lobby, the secretary seemed to be busy but Ava marched her way over.
“Can I help you?” sneered the Secretary.
“I’m…um…Ava Diggs. I am here to see Magnus Weller,” Ava replied.
“Take a seat,” The secretary said pointing to the wall seats.
Following the direction of the wall of chairs, Ava sat lost in her thoughts on why she was summoned by a mysterious man. Ava had no idea what this meeting could be about. The secretary soon came back afterward and said, “He will see you now”
The secretary walked back to her desk to resume whatever it was.
Ava gathered her belongings and went to the office not far off the lobby. She entered an office that has a large desk with a wall of windows. Honestly, Ava felt a little imitated by it. Magnus was also on the phone when she sat down in one of the chairs facing the desk. He says to whomever,” I will call you back. I have a guest here to see me. Yes, I know but I have hung up. Selma, I have to go now.” He hangs up the phone.
“Sorry, how rude of me. I am Magnus Weller and saw you got my summons.” Magnus said, “ You are probably why that is.”
“Yes. My last name is not Diggs though.” Ava mentioned.
“Oh, I believe that was your birth name before you were adopted by the Klein family. You know your birth parents were werewolves like you.” Magnus explained.
“I only found out what I was recent. No one told me anything about my birth parents. What were they like?” Ava asked.
“Let me tell you why I am summoning new supernaturals into the society. There had been recurring activities with hunters in the area. We were told about the young werewolf that was murdered back in May. We already told some others about this for their safety. “Magnus warned.
Ava knew what he was referring to considering her father might have done it. Speaking truth that is only beginning to reveal itself to her. She can’t trust her family with anything. It is already causing problems for her at home.
“What are the rules of the council?” Ava asked
“Humans can’t know about us. It would cause a lot of mayhem if they were to discover our society under their noses.” Magnus said.
“What were my parents like?” Ava asked again.
“I didn’t know them personally but they were Alphas of the werewolf on the council. They were murdered when you were a baby. I was still under the seer of the council at the time. The hunters got to them. They took you and adopted you as one of them. I am very well aware of the Klein family. Your adopted parents kidnapped you after they killed your parents.” Magnus implies.
Ava did not know what to say to that. She was shell-shocked by the truth and couldn’t believe her adoptive parents would do that to her. They caused so much betrayal in so little amount of time. It has gone too far. The truth needed to come out. Walking out of Magnus Weller's office, she ran home at full speed.
When she got home, her mother was there. Maria didn’t expect to see her home. The other person she didn’t expect to see the home was Kaleb. Ava stormed up to him and shove him.
“YOU’RE A MONSTER!” Ava screamed and still shoving him some more.
“I know everything you’ve been hiding from me. How could you kill my birth parents and kidnap me.” Ava is on verge of tears.
Maria and Kaleb looked at Ava. Not saying anything.
Maria tries to come near Ava.
Ava only backed up further and, “ Stay away from me. I can’t trust you both anymore.”
Then Ava looks at Kaleb and sneered, “ I know you killed Henry and lied to me for months about what you did. Henry probably warned you how I was going to react to this revelation of everything in my life is a complete lie.”
Ava ran up the stairs and then slammed the door. She packed a bag and jumped out the window. She ran to Margo’s house.
Knocking on the door, Margo answered
“What are you doing here?” Margo asked.
“I need a place to crash for a few nights. I will explain but not now.” Ava replied.
Not being able to trust her family may have ruined her for good. Ava is hoping things will get better for her. Margo might be the only person she could trust.
