Chapter 95
“I’m going on a business trip tomorrow,” Mercer suddenly spoke up behind her.
He knew that she wasn’t asleep, so Calla decided not to keep up the act. She asked, “Where are your going?”
“Morvenia,” he replied.
Calla was startled. Did Atlas have business in Morvenia too? She had worked at Atlas for several years, but she had never heard about such a thing. Was this a private business trip?
Calla knew that he might not want to speak about it further, so she did not press him anymore. She only asked, “How long will you be gone?”
“About a week,” he answered after a moment’s thought
“I’ll pack for you,” Calla said, getting up.
“It’s alright!” He stopped her at once.
Calla turned to look at Mercer in the dark, and her brow furrowed.
“I’ll only need to take a few changes of clothes. Jasmine will pack for me tomorrow. It’s late
get some rest,” he said.
You should
It was already 1:00 am, and packing right now would affect both of their sleep. Calla decided not to persist.
After that, Mercer fell completely silent. Some time passed, and the sound of his even breathing reached her ears.
Calla knew that he had fallen asleep, but she was wide awake. She tossed and turned for a long time, and only fell asleep when the day broke and the pale light of dawn began to creep across the sky.
When Calla opened her eyes once more, harsh sunlight was peeking through the window, and she couldn’t help blinking.
The clock on the wall showed that it was already 10:00 am.
She turned and saw that the space beside her was empty.
She hastily pulled on a dressing gown and went downstairs at once.
There was no sign of Mercer downstairs, either. Calla went to the kitchen and saw that Jasmine was
making soup. She asked, “Jasmine, has Mercer left?”
Jasmine turned at the sound of her voice and said in surprise, “Mr. Garland left at 8:00 am this morning. His flight was at 9:30 am. He’s been on the plane for about half an hour already.”
Calla felt disappointment rise within her. She was angry at herself for oversleeping.
Jasmine saw how forlorn she looked and said hastily, “Don’t worry, Ms. Sherman. I’ve already packed Mr. Garland’s things for him. He told me not to bring too much and said that he’ll buy anything that he needs

over there. Besides, Mr. Beck went with him, and he’s sure to take care of Mr. Garland very well.” Calla knew that Jasmine thought she was worried about Mercer, so she smiled and said, “You’re right.” That night, Calla estimated the time Mercer would arrive and sent him a message on the dot. “Have your arrived?”
“The plane has landed safely.” This was the first message that he sent, reassuring her that he was safe. There was no emotion in his tone at all, and it was a completely objective statement.
Calla was thoroughly disappointed, and she did not reply to him after.
For three days straight, Mercer did not contact Calla again. Although she was curious about how things were going for him over there, she knew that he was safe, so she stopped herself from contacting him. On the morning of the fourth day, Calla received a call from an unknown number.
“Is this Ms. Sherman?” The person on the other end was a young woman with a sweet voice.
“Yes. Who’s on the line?” Calla thought that it was either a sales call or someone doing a survey, so she spoke carelessly.
However, the person on the other end dropped a bomb on her. “Ms. Sherman, my name is Sophie Jonas, and I’m Mercer’s ex–girlfriend.”
