Chapter 73
First, she changed the curtains to a lively green and overlaid it with chiffon drapes. It instantly looked dreamy and romantic.
Then, she switched out the drab cushions on the couch for beige–colored ones. She also changed all the vases, porcelain, and even the living room carpet into those of refreshing colors.
All the duvets were replaced with ones that had various flower prints. She also arranged blooming flowers into vases to bring life into the residence. It no longer seemed as dull as it used to be.
One day, Calla’s phone suddenly rang while she was monitoring the worker who helped her hang the drapes.
“Hello?”
Alicia’s boisterous voice could be heard over the phone. “Calla, this is unbecoming of you. You haven’t. called me once since you married into a prestigious family. Are you scared that I try to borrow money from you?”
When she heard that, Calla laughed and walked out to the balcony. “Don’t you know how little matter to him as a wife? He just gave me a card and left me to my own devices.”
Alicia’s interest was piqued. She asked, “A card? How much is the limit?”
Calla replied, “100 thousand a month.”
Alicia suddenly started screaming. It was so loud that Calla extended the phone as far away from her ear as possible.
Calla asked in amusement, “Do you need to be so excited?”
Alicia giggled and said, “It’s 100 thousand. You can spend as you wish every month.”
Calla retorted, “How could I spend so much?”
She’d always been a frugal person. She spent a considerable amount on the new duvets, curtains, and decorations. It was the most she’d ever spent in her life because she knew that Mercer was picky.
Thus, everything she bought were branded items. There was nothing cheap in the apartment. A good horse had to be paired with a good saddle, after all.
Alicia kept offering her suggestions, “Are you stupid? You can buy whatever clothes, shoes, makeup, and bags you want. Don’t you know how to spend money?
“If that doesn’t work, buy jewelry. Jewelry can be sold in the future. Even if you can’t finish spending that money, you could withdraw cash from the account. You should be able to withdraw at least 50 thousand from that card every month.”
Calla’s grin broadened. She said, “Alright. I’ve got some work to do. I don’t have time to listen to your blabbering nonsense. I’ll be hanging up now, okay?”
Alicia said hurriedly, “Don’t. I have something extremely important to tell you.”
Calla asked, “What else do you want to say?”
“Your marriage with the scrooge has created a huge commotion in Atlas. Thankfully, you’ve resigned and
don’t need to come to work. If not, the glares of all the women here would kill you!”
+15 BONUS.
That explained why some of her middle–aged ex–colleagues tried to add her on social media. Both male and female colleagues tried.
There were also calls from unregistered numbers. Because she did not know them, Calla did not pick up She thought that they were scam calls. As it turned out all of this happened because news of her marriage with Mercer had gotten out.
Years of working made Calla understand that the younger workers in the company were jealous of her. The older workers would try to climb to higher positions by establishing a good relationship with her. Annoyance took over her when she thought of that.
“It looks like the scrooge was right in asking me to resign.”
Calla had previously been reluctant to give her job up. But now it looked like she wouldn’t have been able to carry out her tasks as usual even if she hadn’t.
“The scrooge is a trickster. How could you plot against him? You should take advantage of his happy moments and scam him out of some money. If you don’t, you’ll definitely regret it in the future.”
Listening to Alicia’s mocking tone, Calla smiled gently
