Chapter 71
Calle mumbled under her breath, “Don’t injure your hand. You just can’t do anything right.” Then, she walked upstairs with a hand on her hip.
Calla couldn’t even begin to describe how pleased she felt while lying in bed.
Even Mercer had moments that she could openly criticize him for. Just thinking about it resolved any anger she had felt.
That said, he had fickle emotions and was rather arrogant–but was still a good person. She hadn’t expected him to wash the dishes for her and allow her to scold him like that.
This was the normal life of a married couple. Calla felt like she’d assimilated into the role of a wife.
Before long, the door to her bedroom was pushed open.
Calla looked up to see Mercer standing over her, his icy expression chilling her to the core.
“What does this mean?” He glared at Calla coldly.
Calla was interrogated for a reason she could not comprehend. She asked, “What does what mean?”
Mercer continued questioning. “Are we not husband and wife?”
Calla nodded. “Yes, we are.” Even as she said that, she internally griped that there was no love between them although they were legally ordained as a married couple.
Mercer asked, “In that case, why are you staying in this room?”
When she heard that, Calla stared at him, her mind working overtime.
What was he getting at? Was he blaming her for not settling into the master bedroom? Had he lost the ability to survive without her? That would be hilarious but certainly not the case.
Then, did he want her to satisfy his needs while she was pregnant? What a monster!
Calla did not know how to respond. She randomly made an excuse to shut him up. “Even though we’re married, we need our personal space. That way, we can live comfortably in our own pas. Don’t you think?
When Calla finished speaking, there was a frown firmly rooted on Mercer’s face. Calla pursed her lips, realizing that she might’ve said the wrong thing
Mercer roared, “Whatever!” He slammed the door as he stormed out.
Calla’s eyebrows furrowed, then relaxed. She couldn’t really understand what was going on with Mercer. Was emotional instability part of his personality?
When Mercer returned to the master bedroom, everything looked horrible in his eyes. He picked his phone up and made a call.
Ally asked on the other end, “Mr. Garland, what are your instructions?”
Mercer ordered, “You don’t need to send someone over for the business trip tomorrow. I’ll go there myself.”

Ally sounded hesitant. “But the person who was originally supposed to go has already bought their tickets.
When Mercer spoke again, he was much louder. He snapped, “Get them a refund. Don’t you understand what I’m saying?”
“Yes, I understand. I’ll book the tickets for you immediately.” She hung up immediately after.
Throwing the phone onto the bed, Mercer rose to stand in front of the window with his hands on his hips.
He suddenly found the situation ridiculous. How could such a small thing alight the anger in his heart? A better question would be: How could the person who pissed him off so easily be the one in the neighboring room?
Mercer looked down and shook his head. He felt like he’d acted the part too well. It was time to cool
down.
The next morning, after Mercer got dressed and went downstairs, he saw that Calla had already laid out breakfast.
Calla had the same cartoon apron over her clothes as she smiled at Mercer. She announced, “Time to eat.
Yesterday, she’d given it some thought. Now that she was eating his food and staying at his place, she‘ couldn’t piss the scrooge off. It would bring no benefit to her.
Thus, she had to take a more gentle and subtle approach.
