Chapter 69
After going upstairs with her luggage, Calla realized that there were two bedrooms on the upper floor.
The first one was huge, with an en–suite bathroom and walk–in wardrobe. Without a doubt, it was the master bedroom. The other room was a little smaller. That said, it was kept clean and tidy
Calla was conflicted. When Mercer left, he hadn’t told her which room she was supposed to live in.
After a moment of thought, she walked into the smaller bedroom with her luggage. After all, she was pregnant. Not only was she easily awakened at night, but she would often throw up without warning. It would definitely affect his sleep.
Plus, she couldn’t fulfill his nightly needs anyway. There was no need for them to sleep in the same bed.
After wandering about the residence for a few hours, Calla realized that it was fully equipped, though she didn’t like the choice of interior and furniture.
The bathroom was stocked with products she might need, and the fridge was filled to the brim with food- all of which were expensive products Of course, scrooges like him would be extremely wealthy.
She stared at the card he’d handed her. The limit of 100 thousand a month would ensure she’d never have to
about her next meal.
But in spite of herself, she felt as though she’d become a caged nightingale–an experience she just couldn’t get used to
At 5:00 pm, Calla suddenly received a message from Mercer.
I’ll be eating at home tonight. I get home around 7.00pm.
They were a series of simple words. Yet, Calla stared at them for a long time before understanding that Mercer was asking her to cook
Calla was a little repulsed. He could’ve just asked her to cook and to wait for him to come home. Why did he have to be so indirect?
But when she thought about how she could eat and stay here for free while getting paid, she felt like her life wasn’t all that bad.
In addition, he’d just helped her teach Jill, her greatest enemy, a lesson. She had to do something to repay his kindness, didn’t she?
When she thought of that, her anger dissipated. Seeing that it was getting late, she hurriedly got up and went to the fridge to see what she could make tonight.
Calla had grown up in poverty. Not only was cooking a piece of cake for her, she had also mastered the art of cooking in an hour, she swiftly emerged from the kitchen with dinner.
Just as she’d set the table, Calla glanced up at the clock on the wall that indicated it was already 7:00 pm.
In the next moment, the door was opened from the outside. Mercer walked in wearing a black suit with his briefcase in hand.
The second he entered the door, he could smell the aroma of the dishes. He couldn’t help but glance

toward the dining room. He saw Calla in a cartoon apron, a simple blue ribbon holding her hair back. His eyes darkened at the sight.
Calla hadn’t expected Mercer to be home on time. She smiled and said, “You’re home? We can eat now.”
Mercer nodded in agreement. “Alright.”
He shrugged his coat off and changed into indoor slippers before walking over.
He then took his seat and stared at the buttered vegetables, roasted potatoes, bacon pasta, and pot of mushroom soup before him. He took a whiff and knew that it would taste just as good as it smelled.
Calla placed a plate of pasta in front of Mercer. He must’ve been hungry because he immediately took the plate and scooped some vegetables onto it before attempting to stuff some into his mouth.
Calla slapped the back of his hand and ordered, “Go wash your hands first!”
