“Everyone, this issue of ‘Prestige‘ magazine features an interview with our CEO, Mr. Garland. The HR department just sent over a copy. If you’re interested, feel free to pass it around,” Derek said as he placed the magazine on Calla’s desk before turning and heading back to his office.
Before Calla could even react, several female colleagues rushed over. They grabbed the magazine and started chattering excitedly while flipping through it.
Seeing her colleagues‘ enthusiastic behavior, Calla found it amusing. They were fawning over Mercer as if he were a celebrity. That man had nothing more than his good looks and the luck of being born into wealth.
His temper was unpredictable, and he always seemed distant and cold. Even if he were offered to her now, she wouldn’t want him anymore.
“How can this be?” Emily suddenly exclaimed in dismay as she stared at the magazine.
Another female colleague quickly asked, “What happened? What’s wrong?”
Emily tossed the magazine onto the desk, looking dejected. “Mr. Garland is actually married.”
“What? Mr. Garland is married? No way. Let me see.” A crowd of female colleagues gathered around the magazine.
“Oh my gosh! It’s true. Mr. Garland admitted to having a wife in the interview. But when did he start wearing a wedding ring?”
Calla was eating at that time. The moment she heard that, she stopped chewing. Mercer admitted he was married? What did this mean? Didn’t he say they were supposed to keep their marriage a secret at the company?
Calla pondered the possibilities. Maybe he had some reason for acknowledging the marriage. As for who his wife was, it would probably remain a mystery. He might just want everyone to know that he was already taken.
“I told you Mr. Garland might have a wife, but you girls wouldn’t believe it,” Alicia said, winking in Calla’s direction.
“Do you know who Mr. Garland’s wife is?” one female colleague asked, still unwilling to give up.
Alicia shrugged. “How would I know? I’m not related to Mr. Garland.”
“Isn’t it obvious? In a family as wealthy as Mr. Garland’s, it must be a match of equals–a strong marriage alliance. How many Cinderellas have you seen marry into wealthy families? Even if they did, it never lasts long,” Emily said with a tinge of jealousy.
“That’s not necessarily true. Mr. Garland might introduce his wife to everyone one day. And she could very well be a Cinderella,” Alicia joked.
“That will never happen.” Emily shook her head dismissively.
Alicia then walked over to Calla and whispered in her ear, “Ignore them. They’re just upset because they can’t have what they want and don’t want anyone else to have it either.”
“Actually, they have a point,” Calla said, feeling down again for some reason.

At this moment, Lucy walked in with a cheerful smile. have big news!”
“More news? Isn’t Mr. Garland’s marriage news enough? Who is it about this time?” Emily asked. She was always eager for gossip.
“Would I be talking about it if it wasn’t about Mr. Garland?” Lucy said with a mysterious smile.
