Chapter With 55
Chapter 55
“What are you laughing at?” Seeing Calla’s reaction, Peggy couldn’t contain herself.
“I’m laughing because you’re so naive. What you just said is the funniest joke I’ve heard this year.” Calla said, stifling her laughter.
Peggy was furious and retorted sharply, “Calla, are you jealous of me? Look at you, you’re just like an old hag. What man would like you?
“By the way, you’re pregnant, aren’t you? Where’s the man who got you pregnant? Why haven’t we seen him come to marry you in a grand ceremony? I bet he’s either already married, or some poor loser with no house or car!”
“Me? Jealous of you? Oh…” Calla scoffed, but then felt a wave of nausea. Unable to continue arguing, she covered her mouth and ran toward the bathroom.
Peggy felt more energized as she saw Calla flee. She continued to jab in Calla’s direction. “Looks like I hit the nail on the head. She’s so embarrassed she’s running away.”
The exchange happened to be witnessed by Mercer from behind the partially open door. He picked up the Phone and dialed Ally. “Have security escort Peggy out immediately!” Mercer shouted as his face was full
of disgust.
“Yes, sir,” Ally responded promptly.
“And didn’t a reputable magazine request an exclusive interview with me? Get in touch with them and tell them I have time this afternoon. I want to be in the next issue’s feature,” Mercer continued.
Ally hesitated and asked, “But Mr. Garland, didn’t you say you wouldn’t accept interviews from entertainment magazines?”
“I’ve changed my mind. Do I need your approval for that?” Mercer’s tone was icy.
“No, no. Of course not. I overstepped.” Ally quickly apologized before hanging up.
After she put down the phone, Ally saw Peggy leaving and shook her head. Thank goodness Peggy left quickly, or she’d be even more humiliated today.
Suddenly, the phone rang again. Ally looked down and saw that it was the CEO calling. She hurriedly picked it up and answered the call.
“I don’t want to see Peggy again. If she comes, keep her out!” Mercer commanded before hanging up in a huff.
Ally didn’t even get the chance to respond. Placing the phone down gently, she shook her head again. Peggy must’ve really angered Mercer today. It also became clear that Calla seemed to hold a significant place in his heart.
In the bathroom, Calla felt slightly better after throwing up. She looked at herself in the mirror and saw her sallow complexion. It was indeed unflattering. Plus, she wasn’t able to use makeup to cover her poor complexion now. She couldn’t help but feel sorry for herself.
No wonder Peggy called her an old hag. And no wonder Mercer was so cold to her, going as far as Involving himself with a gaudy woman like Peggy. Call felt deeply hurt.

But why should she let those two make her unhappy? After all, one was her enemy and the other was just the father of her child. She couldn’t let these two people affect her mood like this.
With that thought in mind, Calla angrily threw the tissues Into the trash can. She turned around and walked out of the bathroom with her head held high.
