Chapter 38
On Friday afternoon, Atlas employees were granted an early leave. Four tour buses were parked in front of Atlas Tower, with employees boarding one after another.
Sitting on the bus, Calla kept glancing outside. Most of the company’s executives had already arrived, but Mercer was still nowhere to be seen.
“Is he coming or not?” Alicia couldn’t contain her impatience.
“I don’t know,” Calla replied with a frown.
Covering her face, Alicia lamented. “Oh, no. We’re leaving in five minutes. My money!”
“Fine, I’ll treat you to lunch every day for the rest of the month, okay?” Calla thought that since she couldn’t finish all the food at the Riviera by herself, Mercer wouldn’t mind her bringing some back.
“Mr. Garland! Mr. Garland is here!” a woman suddenly exclaimed.
Calla looked up and saw a tall figure in a black suit walking toward them from a distance, followed by Simon and Ally, who were carrying luggage bags.
“He really came! We won!” Alicia grabbed Calla’s arm excitedly.
At this moment, Calla noticed that Mercer’s gaze seemed to briefly glance in her direction–and it appeared gentle. That glance quickly stirred a wave of emotions in her heart.
What was happening to her? Why did she feel this way? Seeing him made her feel warm inside, and she no longer cared about winning the bet. Instead, she felt her heart racing at the sight of him.
“Mr. Garland is going to spend two days and two nights with us. Just thinking about it makes me excited!” The female employees were all giggling foolishly.
Meanwhile, Alicia was busy counting her money. After a few minutes, she handed Calla a thick stack of
bills. “You won 400 dollars!”
Accepting the stack of bills, Calla suddenly felt uneasy. Was this considered cheating? Wasn’t she using
her husband to win a bet?
But then, something even more sensational happened. Mercer actually boarded their bus with Simon and
Ally.
All the female employees on the bus were starstruck, and the male employees nervously adjusted their
ties.
Mercer, Simon, and Ally were naturally seated in the VIP area at the front of the bus. The other employees aboard instantly fell silent. No one dared to speak loudly.
Calla could see Mercer’s back from where she was sitting, and she couldn’t help stealing glances at him. Then she turned away and scolded herself inwardly for feeling nervous.
It was just a bus ride together. She shouldn’t act like those infatuated women. Besides, she had slept with him before, and it wasn’t all that special.
Just as the bus was about to depart, a woman’s voice rang out, “Wait for me! Don’t leave…” Peggy, dragging her suitcase, ran toward them while shouting all the way,

Seeing Peggy, Alicia frowned. “Why is she here? She doesn’t work at Atlas.”
“Someone must have invited her.” Calla suddenly felt a pang of jealousy.
Did Mercer invite Peggy? After all, if it wasn’t an official invitation from the company, Peggy wouldn’t have known about the company trip.
“This totally ruins the mood.” Alicia pouted.
“She’s just a pile of trash. Pretend you didn’t see her.” Calla chuckled softly and told herself to ignore Peggy.
After Peggy boarded the bus, she sat directly beside Mercer. All the women on the bus were envious.
As the car started moving, Peggy began to shower Mercer with attention. She handed him a water bottle one moment, fruits the next, and snacks after that.
Mercer waved them away, but Peggy wasn’t deterred. Throughout the journey, she either cracked joke to amuse Mercer or found topics to chat about, displaying the highest level of flattery.
