The next moment, Mercer stood up and looked down at the person in front of him. His tone softened as he said, “I have a meeting this afternoon, so I need to leave now. Enjoy your food.”

Enjoy? Calla was already brimming with anger because of him.

As soon as she shot Mercer a fierce glare, he turned around. Startled, she quickly lowered her head. She couldn’t understand why she, who feared nothing and no one, was afraid of Mercer.

Unfortunately for Calla, Mercer had noticed her glare, With a smirk, he said, “From now on, you’ll come here for lunch every day.”

“Why should I listen to you?” Calla’s frustrated voice suddenly came from behind Mercer just as he turned to leave once more.

“Because I’m your husband,” Mercer replied before walking out and slamming the door behind him.

The sound of the closing door made Calla’s heart skip a beat. She could sense that his last words before leaving were laden with anger–but so what if he was angry? Calla didn’t dwell on it any longer.

Although it was just salad, it would at least fill her stomach. Besides, it was food from a five–star hotel. She shouldn’t waste it.

With that thought in mind, she lowered her head and began to eat.

After finishing her meal, Calla reached for her phone. She wanted to call Harlan and explain the situation, as well as inform him about her marriage to Mercer. This would effectively put an end to any hope he might still have for her.

But no matter how hard she looked, Calla couldn’t find Harlan’s number.

Just as she was getting anxious, it dawned on her that Mercer had been fiddling with her phone earlier. It was only now that she realized he must have deleted Harlan’s number from her phone.

Calla was furious at the thought of this. She hadn’t expected Mercer to be so petty.

Well, now she was in a fix. She couldn’t even remember Harlan’s number. It seemed like she’d have to explain things to him later.

Just as she was about to exit her list of contacts, Calla suddenly noticed a newly saved contact on her phone. The name field read “Darling“.

Her eyes widened in surprise. She had never saved a contact with such a term before.

When she checked the phone number, she finally understood. Mercer must have saved it just now

because the number belonged to him.

Calla couldn’t help but laugh with exasperation. Mercer was all grown up but was still acting like a child with this kind of prank.

When Calla was back in the office, Alicia had already returned from lunch.

Upon seeing Calla, she chuckled softly. “I bet the scrooge’s meal was fit for a king, huh?

Calla rolled her eyes. “Oh, please. It was like a rabbit’s meal.”

“No way. He’s that stingy?” Alicia whispered in disbelief.

“Yeah,” Calla affirmed.

Just then, the crisp sound of high heels echoed through the room.

Calla and Alicia turned to see Peggy walking in, dressed to the nines.

Seeing her, Calla gave her a disdainful glance before turning back to her seat.

Peggy returned the gesture with a glare before approaching with some documents in hand. “Who’s in charge of processing insurance expense claims? I’m here to collect payment.”

“Over here.” Alicia raised her finger before taking a seat.

Peggy placed the documents in front of Alicia. With a forced smile, she spoke coquettishly, “Miss, I’m here to claim my expense. Could you handle it?”

After glancing at the documents, Alicia replied, “I’m sorry, but these documents don’t meet the requirements.”

“How do they not meet the requirements? Mr. Garland signed these documents himself. Don’t you recognize his signature?” Peggy’s voice turned shrill.
