Chapter 129
“Is Calla Sherman’s family here?” the doctor asked in a raised voice.
“Doctor, how is she?” Rose remained seated while Ally approached to answer her.
“The patient has developed pre–eclampsia. Her condition is dangerous. Please prepare yourselves mentally!” After saying this, the doctor turned and went back into the delivery room.
Upon hearing this, Jasmine and Ally looked extremely worried.
Rose’s eyes flickered, and she immediately instructed, “Ally, go back to the company right away and find a way to contact Mercer. Ask him to hurry back!”
“Yes, ma’am.” Ally swiftly left.
After Ally left, Rose and Sophie exchanged a glance. Sophie immediately took out her phone and went to a corner to make a call.
Two minutes later, Sophie returned, nodded to Rose, and then turned to Jasmine.
“Jasmine, do you remember everything I told you before?”
“…” As though confronted by a formidable enemy, Jasmine couldn’t find the words to say.
“Just do as I said. If anything goes wrong, it’ll be on your head,” Rose instructed.
As Rose and Sophie prepared to leave, Jasmine hurriedly knelt in front of Rose and pleaded anxiously, Mrs. Garland Senior, I’ll do anything for you, but please don’t make me do something that goes against my conscience!”
Sophie frowned, and Rose lowered her voice threateningly, “Jasmine, you’ve been with my family for over 20 years. Don’t you see how well I treat you?
“I was the one who helped you when your parents couldn’t afford medical treatment. Two years ago, your son ran up a huge gambling debt, and I helped you settle it.
“This is the only time I’ve ever asked for your help, and you’re here talking about your conscience. Are you planning to bite the hand that feeds you?”
“I… Mrs. Garland Senior, I would never,” Jasmine cried,
“And don’t forget, your son is still in prison. I’m currently arranging for his sentence reduction. Don’t make the wrong move at such a critical time!” Rose added sternly.
Rose’s words struck Jasmine’s weak spot, leaving her with no choice but to bow her head and say, “Mrs. Garland Senior, I will do as you say.”
Upon hearing this, Rose and Sophie showed satisfied smiles on their faces. Shortly after, the two disappeared into the hospital.
Jasmine paced guiltily in front of the delivery room, glancing occasionally toward the staircase, checking if the person she was waiting for had arrived.
Finally, after about 15 minutes, a tall figure rushed in from the stairs.
He was wearing a gray wool coat, had a pair of gold–rimmed glasses on his nose, and looked very refined

even though he was panting and sweating profusely.
“Are you Mr. Harlan Engler?” Jasmine asked despite knowing this was the person she had been waiting
for.
“Were you the one who called me?” Harlan asked anxiously.
“I asked a nurse to call you. It’s good that you’re here,” Jasmine replied quickly.
“How is Calla now?” Harlan looked toward the delivery room with worried eyes.
“The doctor said it’s an obstructed labor. I’m Calla’s caretaker. Calla mentioned that her mother is ill, and her sister is young and not very helpful. She doesn’t have anyone reliable by her side.
“After thinking it over, she made the last–minute decision to ask for your help,” Jasmine recited the words Rose had taught her beforehand. However, due to nervousness, she stumbled over her words.
Harlan didn’t suspect anything, considering how critical the situation was. He knew that Jasmine, being the caretaker, could be hesitant to take responsibility.
“Where… is her husband?” Harlan paced back and forth a few times before suddenly asking.
