Chapter 125
Jasmine, who understood what Calla meant, went out to open the door.
Calla was curious about what Sophie had to say. In fact, she was wondering if Sophie and Mercer had continued their affair during the past few months.
She imagined Sophie must be frustrated, having to wait for Mercer to divorce her after all this time.
A moment later, Jasmine led Sophie into the villa.
Calla sat on the couch, coldly watching as Sophie approached with a smile and sat on the couch directly opposite her.
Sophie glanced at the bags Jasmine was carrying and smiled. “I bought some clothes for the baby. Since I don’t know if it’s a boy or a girl, I chose colors that would work for both.”
Calla felt uncomfortable with Sophie’s lack of awkwardness and her behaving as if she had a close relationship with the baby. She immediately said, “Jasmine, why haven’t you served our guest tea?”
“Oh, right. I overlooked that,” Jasmine replied, quickly putting down the bags and heading to make tea.
Calla’s message was clear: This was Mercer’s villa, and she was its mistress. No matter what Sophie thought, she was just a guest and had no real connection to Calla or her baby.
Sophie understood the implied message. She glanced around the villa and then said with a smile, “This villa doesn’t compare to the one Mercer has in the suburbs of Kalva. He and I used to spend several vacations there together.”
Sophie’s comment was clearly provocative. Uninterested in a confrontation, Calla looked at the baby clothes on the coffee table and coldly said, “I’ve already prepared everything for the baby. Thank you for your thoughtfulness, but you should take these back.”
Hearing this, Sophie hesitated briefly before saying with a smile, “Is that so? If I had known, I wouldn’t have gone through the trouble of bringing them here. But it’s fine; I can use these clothes when I take care
of the baby later.”
Calla frowned. “What do you mean by that? My baby doesn’t need your care.”
“You mean you don’t know? Hasn’t Mercer told you yet?” Sophie asked, feigning surprise.
“What exactly are you trying to say?” Calla asked impatiently.
She knew Sophie had come with ill intentions, but she couldn’t figure out what her real motive was.
Sophie probably wasn’t here just to humiliate her, as that seemed pointless and ineffective.
The next moment, Sophie said, “Since Mercer hasn’t told you, I will. After you give birth, Mercer will divorce you. Once he and I are married, I’ll be this child’s mother. Isn’t it a given for me to take care of him?”
Hearing those words, Calla stood up in a panic, pointing at Sophie. She couldn’t tolerate it any longer. You will not take my child!”
“That’s Mercer’s decision. Whether you accept it or not, it stands.” Sophie hummed, leveraging Mercer’s authority to pressure her.

Calla could no longer stay calm. Furious, she retorted, “Don’t use Mercer to threaten me. Even if I divorce him, I will never give him my child.”
Sophie stood up abruptly, sneering. “Calla, I don’t know if you’re pretending to be naive or if you really are. Do you think a family like the Garlands will let their flesh and blood live elsewhere?
“With Mercer’s influence, do you think he will let you take the child away? Wake up! If you have any sense, you’ll get on your knees and beg me now. Maybe I’ll pity you and let you see the child occasionally after I take charge of him. But if you continue to yell at me, you’ll never see your child again!”
