Chapter 120

An impeccably dressed Rose only came out of the house when Sophie had already finished the tea in her

cup.

Seeing Rose approach, Sophie stood up with a smile.

“Mrs. Garland Senior, you haven’t aged a day. You still look as young and beautiful as ever!”

Rose seemed slightly surprised to see Sophie but quickly regained her composure,

Sophie placed the gift she had brought on the stone table then. “This is a little something I brought back from Morvenia. I hope you like it, Mrs. Garland Senior.”

Naturally, Rose didn’t care about the gift. She forced an empty smile and remarked, “I didn’t think you would remember me after all these years.”

“You are Mercer’s mother. Of course I always keep you in mind,” Sophie replied smoothly.

Rose scoffed upon hearing Mercer’s name. “You say you came from Riverford, so I assume you’ve already met Mercer?

“Yes.” Sophie nodded.

“In that case, you must know that Mercer is married now, and Calla is pregnant. Mercer is going to be a father soon,” Rose informed while scrutinizing Sophie’s reaction.

“Mercer told me everything.” Sophie nodded again.

Rose was surprised by this. “If you know all that, why are you here?”

Sophie smiled, unhurriedly pulling a photo from her bag and placing it in front of Rose. “While packing up my place before returning, I came across this old photo. I thought I should bring it to you in person, Mrs. Garland Senior.”

Rose initially dismissed the photo, but a quick glance made her gasp in shock. She picked it up, examined it closely, and her expression darkened. While she managed to control her anger, she couldn’t hide her agitation.

She turned and called out, “Jenny, I’ve suddenly got a craving for cherries. Go to the big supermarket on the south side and get two pounds of them.”

“Understood,” Jenny replied, quickly grabbing her bag and heading out.

Seeing Rose send Jenny away, Sophie knew that she had succeeded halfway. A smile tugged at the

corner of her mouth.

Rose angrily tore up the photo in her hand after Jenny left.

Sophie couldn’t help but laugh. “Mrs. Garland Senior, I have the negatives of that photo. You can’t tear them all up.”

“How did you get this photo?” Rose demanded in a low voice.

Sophie smirked, recalling the events of that day. “I remember it was when I was still in college. Mercer and I had planned to go on a picnic, but I got my period and we couldn’t go. While Mercer was reading

inside, I stayed with him and took photos of the greenery outside.

“But then, the gate suddenly opened, and you walked in with a man. When you abruptly closed the door, the man started kissing you passionately…”

“Enough!” Rose, who had been so imposing moments ago, was now pale.

However, Sophie continued her story. “I remember Mr. Garland Senior was supposed to be in Kalva for a meeting that day. You assumed Mercer and I had gone on our picnic and wouldn’t be back all day. You and that man were so eager that I saw you both undressing as you entered the house…”

“Shut up!” Rose suddenly bellowed. She seemed dizzy as she supported her head with her hand.

Sophie paused briefly, only to add, “Mercer saw what you and that man were doing from the window. He was furious! No one wants the public to know about their family’s scandals. He told me to stay inside. I had to listen to him, of course. After all, we were supposed to be family in the future.”

Rose no longer had the imposing look from earlier. She suddenly seemed much older. However, being a person who had faced her fair share of tough situations, she quickly composed herself, raised her head, and sneered.

“Tell me, Sophie. What do you want?”
