Chapter 115
Raising her eyes to look at the pitch–black sky outside, Calla wondered how she was going to get through this long night on an empty stomach.
If she had known this protest would be so difficult, she would have hidden some food in the residence in advance, so she could sneak a bit at night and not feel so miserable.
Calla touched her belly and quietly comforted the baby inside her. “My child, you must hold on! It’s all your foolish mother’s fault for not having a proper strategy.”
Seeing Calla continue her resistance, Jasmine finally had no choice but to leave the room with the food. Calla could only look out into the endless night and sigh.
When Calla’s stomach was growling with hunger at around 8:30 pm, there was suddenly the sound of heavy footsteps outside, and then the door was kicked open.
Startled, Calla looked up, only to see Mercer glumly storming in.
Mercer’s first sentence upon getting to the bedside was, “Are you using my child as an excuse for you to act out?”
Calla hadn’t expected him to come so soon. She thought Jasmine would tell him about her hunger strike tonight, and he wouldn’t come until tomorrow.
“I want to go back to Riverford!” Calla said calmly, looking up at Mercer.
“Absolutely not,” Mercer insisted.
Seeing his resolute stance, Calla turned her face away and simply nonchalantly mentioned, “In that case, you can watch your child starve to death.”
Of course, Calla couldn’t bear anything to happen to the child. However, the child had become her only bargaining chip.
She could only quietly tell her child not to blame her for using them to threaten Mercer. After all, Calla had no option.
To her surprise, Mercer didn’t feel threatened at all. Her words even angered him.
He pointed at Calla and warned, “Calla, I’m telling you this seriously: if anything happens to my child, your whole family will pay for it!”
Calla broke into a cold sweat upon seeing his gaze as cold as an iceberg. His words frightened her, leaving her in shock for a long moment.
“D–Don’t you dare!” Calla’s voice trembled.
Mercer could indeed be terrifying when he was mad. Furthermore, he had the influence in Riverford to back up his threats. Calla couldn’t risk her mother and sister’s safety.
“If you don’t want me to do anything rash, then eat your meals on time,” Mercer instructed.
At that moment, Calla realized that she couldn’t confront him head–on; he wouldn’t back down, and she had no real leverage against him.

A wise person knew when to yield. There was no point in trying to take him on when she knew he was stronger than her.
With that, Calla softened her tone. “Mercer, I’ve been here for several days. Don’t you know that my mom, sister, and friends will be worried when they can’t find me? I–If they panic and call the police, you’ll get in trouble,” she said.
“Don’t worry. I went to your mother’s house yesterday. I told them your unborn child was at risk, and that I took you to a retreat in another city where you need to rest quietly and shouldn’t be disturbed. I told them to contact you in a few days and left them enough money to live on.
“Also, I left your sister who is about to go to college with tuition fees as well. As for your best friend Alicia, I had Ally tell her the same story. Do you have any other friends or relatives you need to notify?
“I can have my secretary handle it all. You just need to stay here and rest until you safely deliver my child! ‘Mercer stared at Calla, delivering all this in one breath.
