Chapter 107
Hearing this, Calla was shocked. “Have you been following me? Or did you send someone to tail me?” she questioned angrily.
“Does it matter?” Mercer responded with a cold look.
“So what if I went to Southera University? Don’t I have the freedom to do as I wish?” Calla tried to shake his hand off, but his grip was like an iron vice. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t break free.
“Why did you go to Southera University? Did you go to see Harlan? Tell me!” Mercer’s veins bulge on his forehead. His voice grew louder with each question.
Hadn’t he already made his choice? She was a stand–in for the woman he truly loved. Why should he care if she sought out another man?
This must be the inferiority complex of wealthy men like him. Even if they didn’t like someone, they wouldn’t allow anyone else to touch what they considered theirs.
“Can’t I have a male friend? At least Harlan and I have clean consciences–unlike you and Sophie, sneaking around!” Calla retorted.
At these words, Mercer’s eyes narrowed. “How do you know about Sophie? What else do you know?”
Seeing that he seemed nervous, Calla couldn’t help but sneer. “I know everything. Mercer, don’t take everyone else for fools. If you don’t want people to find out, you shouldn’t do it in the first place.”
Though Calla had exposed him coldly, only she knew the pain in her heart. Mercer loosened his grip on her wrist. Calla took the opportunity to push him away and free her hand.
Looking down at her bruised wrist, she frowned.
Mercer ran a hand through his hair and paced back and forth in the living room.
Then, his tone softened as he said, “Calla, I’ve been meaning to tell you about Sophie-”
Mercer had barely started speaking when Calla cut him off harshly. “You don’t need to explain. I don’t
want to hear it!”
What was there to explain? The person he loved was Sophie, Calla didn’t want to hear him say it out loud, fearing she couldn’t bear it.
How could she have fallen in love with Mercer? This was the question Calla had been asking herself for days.
She had seen so many women fall in love with wealthy men, dreaming of marrying into fortunes. She despised such fantasies the most. So how had she fallen into the same trap?
Now, karma had come. She was destined to fall from a great height and be shattered to pieces..
Mercer stared at Calla, his expression shifting from conciliatory to rigid. His gaze grew colder.
Tilting his head, he asked, “You found out about Sophie and me. That’s why you went to see Harlan–to get back at me. Am I right? Are you trying to humiliate me? You wanted to cheat on me, didn’t you?”
Calla didn’t expect him to have such thoughts.

Many women might have retaliated this way after discovering their husbands‘ infidelity. Yet, Calla was not one of those foolish women. Mercer’s accusation was an insult!
Calla wanted to refute him, but in her fury, she lost her restraint and retorted, “Mr. Garland, I think you’re too confident. I wouldn’t stoop so low as to degrade myself to get back at you.
“I went to Harlan because he’s better than you!”
This statement only fueled Mercer’s anger. The flame of rage burned hotter than before.
He grabbed Calla’s shoulders, his eyes dark and menacing. “What did you say? Say it again!”
