Chapter 106

Looking at her phone, Calla saw it was Harlan calling. She quickly answered.

“Calla, our accounting department has openings for transfer students this year. Your sister has been performing well in her current department. I’ve already spoken to the head of department. She should have no problem transferring.

“I have the application form with me. Where are you right now? I’ll bring it over to you,” Harlan said on the

other end.

Calla was overjoyed to hear this. Zoey might be able to enroll in the accounting program at Southera University.

“No need. I’ll come to get it myself. Don’t let me interrupt your classes,” Calla quickly replied.

“Okay, I’ll wait for you in my office,” Harlan said before hanging up.

Calla hurried upstairs to change. Harlan usually had class at 9:00 am, and it was 8:00 am now. It would take her about half an hour to get to Southera University, ensuring she arrived without interfering with his

class.

Ten minutes later, Calla had gotten dressed, grabbed her bag, and informed Jasmine before leaving. She hailed a cab at the entrance and headed straight for Southera University.

As the cab entered the driveway, a luxurious black sedan followed behind.

The man in the back seat had a stern expression. As the cab got closer to Southera University, his hands clasped together.

The cab soon pulled up at the university’s entrance. After paying the fare, Calla got out and strode into

campus.

The cab had already driven off, and Calla’s figure disappeared into the campus. But the sedan remai parked in place.

“Mr. Garland-” Simon, who was driving, started to say something.

“Drive!” Mercer immediately cut him off.

Simon had no choice but to start the engine again. The car soon vanished from Southera University’s

gates.

In the afternoon, Calla dragged her weary body back to Emerald Bay.

She had spent the day picking up application forms from Harlan’s office. Then, she rushed back to the Sherman residence to pick Zoey up for application submissions.

After grabbing a quick lunch, she dropped Zoey off and finally took a cab home.

As a pregnant woman, she was exhausted by the end of the day.

Calla entered the apartment and changed into her slippers. She massaged her shoulders as she walked into the living room.

But when she looked up, she was startled to see someone sitting on the couch.

Why was he home at this hour?

Mercer sat upright as if waiting for her. His gaze was as cold as ice, sending chills through her body.

“Where have you been?” Mercer’s voice was glacially cold.

“Back to my mom’s place,” Calla replied flatly before turning to sit on another couch. She knew this confrontation was inevitable.

Still, didn’t he want a divorce to be with Sophie? Why was he giving her that look now? Calla felt vexed. “You’re still lying?” Mercer raged, grabbing an ashtray and smashing it onto the floor.

With a deafening crash, the ashtray shattered into pieces. The glass shards scattered at Calla’s feet. Being pregnant, Calla instinctively cradled her belly. Her heart raced with the shock she couldn’t handle. “I’m not lying,” Calla said as softly as possible, afraid of alarming the baby.

Seeing Calla’s persistence, Mercer suddenly stood up. In one swift motion, he was right in front of her. Calla felt dizzy, and the next moment, her wrist was gripped with force.

“Are you still trying to deceive me? You went to Southera University!” Mercer’s brows was tightly furrowed.
