Chapter 10
Alicia looked at Calla and said tentatively, “The people in the office have been saying that the Iron Lady’s chubby son has fallen for you and that she wants you to be her daughter–in–law. That explains
her sudden change in attitude toward you.
Calla was amused by what she heard.
“And you believe that? You know the situation I’m in. Would his son agree to be the father of my child?” Calla asked in a lowered voice.
“You’re too good for him even if you’re pregnant. I hear that her son is extremely overweight and mentally challenged. No woman in their right mind would want to marry
him.”
“These people are crazy. They’re actually spreading an empty lie like it’s the truth.” Calla shook her head with a smile.
“I bet they are just jealous that the Iron Lady is giving you preferential treatment, but they don’t know why it’s happening.”
Suddenly, Calla heard some people arguing behind her. She turned around and saw that Peggy was arguing with the chef.
“I want a serving of the soup she has,” Peggy said as she pointed at Calla.
Julian Penton, the chef, glanced at Peggy and said, “There isn’t any left.”
“What? Do you hear yourself? She’s not a manager or a VIP. Why does she get a soup that no one else gets?” Peggy questioned him angrily.
“You’ll have to ask management about it. I don’t know that. I’m only doing what I was told to do,” Julian said with an increasingly harsher tone.
“Oh, I see how it is. You’re probably in a relationship with her, right? That’s why you prepared the soup for her only, isn’t it?” Peggy stared at Julian with a malicious glint in her eyes.
Julian slammed the ladle he was holding down on a food tray and yelled, “Ms. Horn, I’ve never done anything immoral in my life. I won’t stand for the slander you’re throwing at
- me.
“Please don’t think you’re better than everyone because you have a manager backing you. You’re the one who is in a disgraceful relationship. You’ll probably snap back to reality once his wife comes and gives you a beating.”
Julian turned and left after he said that. His words caused everyone in the canteen to

burst out in laughter.
“You…” Peggy glared at Julian, but there was nothing she could do.
Peggy’s friend, Jeanne Duran, told her, “There’s no point in arguing with a cook. Come, let’s go out for lunch.”
“Who does he think he is? He’s just a cook. How dare he be so full of himself?” Peggy muttered before leaving with Jeanne.
Calla sneered after she witnessed the exchange. Peggy really saw her as a reference. She wanted everything that she had and more
Peggy saw the sneer on Calla’s face and glared at her. Calla didn’t back down as she rolled her eyes at Peggy.

After they left the canteen, Jeanne asked, “What eat?”
“Eat? I’m not in the mood to eat anymore,” Peggy said angrily.
“It’s just a bowl of herbal medicine for pregnant women. There’s no need to get so worked up.”
“What? Herbal medicine for pregnant women?” Peggy froze in her tracks and stared at Jeanne in confusion.
“Yeah. My grandpa has a herbal store. That medicine is made with several herbs and supplements,” Jeanne said calmly.
“Why would Calla be drinking that all of a sudden?” Peggy asked as her eyes narrowed.
