Miranda helped Paul back to his home and made sure he was settled. After confirming multiple times that he was fully conscious and could take care of himself, only then did she return to her own place.

Miranda was sweating from the exertion, so she took off the padded jacket. Perhaps she had been too close to Paul, or if the fabric just absorbed scents too easily, but her jacket now had a faint smell of alcohol.

Her cheeks flushed red as she fanned herself, murmuring softly, “Why is it so hot…”

Meanwhile, the same moonlight shone down on the Landon estate.

Samuel and Bridget were about to go to bed when Sebastian suddenly said, “Grandpa, Grandma, wait at

moment.”

“What’s the matter, Seb?” Bridget turned back.

Sebastian had a serious look on his face. “Grandma, this is for you. Please make sure to come tomorrow!”

He didn’t give an invitation to Samuel because with his grandfather’s current position, Samuel was too high–profile to appear in public. He could only show up at significant events like military parades, disaster relief events, or emergency rescue operations.

“This… this is?” Bridget’s hands shook as she took the invitation. An invitation asking her to come tomorrow.. More importantly, her precious grandson seemed to handle it with utmost care.

Could this be?

“Seb, don’t be so reckless. We’re not some old–fashioned family from the middle ages. We’d never interfere with your marriage choices. You don’t have to take such drastic measures… Do you think we would stop you from marrying a young woman you like? Bridget exclaimed.

Sebastian was puzzled.

On the other hand, Samuel’s lips twitched in exasperation, “What are you saying? I told you to stop watching those dramas, but you refuse to listen. What in the world are you thinking?

Bridget looked confused. “It isn’t what I thought?”

Samuel replied, “Why don’t you open it and see first?”

Sebastian finally realized what was happening and didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Amused, he said, Grandma, what are you talking about? This is an invitation to the opening ceremony, not a wedding!

Bridget hesitated as she opened it. “An invitation?”

Oh, she made a big mistake.

“Well, this is indeed an invitation. But it looks formal and well–made, so it could be quite misleading.” Bridget tried to find an excuse for her misunderstanding as she lowered her head to read the text.

Puzzled, she looked up and said, “Lab opening ceremony? What lab?”

Sebastian answered slowly and deliberately, “The lab we built ourselves.”

“What? You built your own lab?”

“Yes.”

Bridget took half a minute to process it before she finally accepted the fact. “So this is the big project you’ve mentioned before?”

“Yes!”

“No way… you’re saying you can build a lab just like that? What does it look like?“Bridget asked.

“You’ll see for yourself tomorrow.”

Then, Sebastian turned to Samuel, “Grandpa, Grandma will take photos of the lab for you tomorrow.”

“Sounds good.”

“So you already knew?” Bridget turned and shot him a sharp look. “And you kept it from me?”

Samuel cleared his throat and said, “About that… It’s getting late, let’s go to bed!”

“Huh?”

The next day, it was a rare sunny day during the winter Gentle rays of sunshine shone on the land, casting a golden hue over the snow on rooftops and tree branches.

Of course, family members were the ones who arrived first at the lab opening ceremony.

“Sweetie! Hi there!” Mason was bundled in a thick winter jacket. He held his wife in one hand and reached out the other to greet his daughter.

“Dad!” Madison’s eyes lit up as she rushed over to them and buried herself in her father’s embrace. “I thought you were coming in the afternoon!”

Mason staggered backward as Madison almost threw him off–balance. Although his chest was aching from the impact, it couldn’t wipe off the wide smile on his face. “Fooled you! We got here yesterday afternoon just to give you a surprise! Were you surprised?”

“Yeah, I am really surprised!”

Next, Madison turned to Audrey with a grin. “Mom, you look so pretty today! You’re the most beautiful and glamorous lady in the universe!”

Although Audrey yearned to have a son, her daughter was still her flesh and blood, and her only child at that. Of course, she loved her dearly.

It was just that she would overthink certain things sometimes and get stuck in her own mind. Audrey smiled widely, her eyes crinkling with happiness. She struck a pose right then. “But of course!”
