What Separates Me and You

Chapter 502 Begging for Food

Shocked, Josephine trembled. She quickly opened her Whatsapp. After confirming that the message was indeed from Seth, she felt somewhat nervous.

She wanted to reply to him but changed her mind.

Instead, she deleted their chat history altogether before putting her phone away.

The new media management department was given a day off because of Yona's incident.

The rumors revolving around Yona damaged only the company's reputation before this. But her suicide had many serious implications. It could potentially affect the company's stock as well. They needed to come up with a solution. Otherwise, they would all suffer the consequences if Lewis held them responsible.

Instead of returning to Styx Mansion, Josephine went to visit Avery.

After entering Avery's ward, she noticed someone else was present. It was none other than Quintin, whom she hadn't seen in a while.

She instinctively glanced at Darren. The two bodyguards seemed conflicted too.

Josephine paid no attention to them and walked right in. They didn't have a proper reason to stop her. After all, this was Avery's ward.

"Josie, you're here!" Avery was the first to spot her and greeted her with joy.

Quintin turned his head too. Knowing Josephine could speak and had returned to normal, he looked somewhat nervous.

"Jo-Josephine."

Josephine nodded and approached them.

Quintin blushed when he thought about how he might have overstepped his boundaries when Josephine lost her memories. He wondered if Josephine remembered them.

The blush on his face was quite visible, considering his already pale complexion.

Stuttering, he said, "Well, I heard from Avery that you're back to normal now?"

"Yeah."

Then an awkward silence settled between them.

Avery's gaze bounced between the two. She seemed to be enjoying the show. After a brief silence, she playfully tapped Quintin's leg with her crutch.

"Why are you blushing? Haven't you two already tied the knot?"

She hit the nail on the head. Blushing even more, Quintin shot her a glare. "Can you just stop talking nonsense? I was forced to marry her due to circumstances."

Josephine nodded in agreement. "Yes, it was Quintin's way of helping me."

If it weren't for Quintin, Robert might have sent her away to someone else at that time.

"Is that so?" Avery clicked her tongue repeatedly. "That wasn't what you said last time."

"Josie, let me tell you something. This guy once mentioned to me that you two had a special connection..." Avery hadn't finished talking yet when Quintin suddenly lunged at her and covered her mouth with his hand.

Avery was already injured. The sudden tumble caused both of them to fall onto the bed.

"Shut up, Avery!" Quintin's face turned even redder as he felt embarrassed and angry. He glared at Avery fiercely.

Avery struggled to lift her hand and push him away. She winced in pain. "Are you crazy? Can't you see I'm injured? Ugh... that hurts."

Pushed aside, Quintin felt his face grow even redder. He gave Avery another warning glare. "Stop making up stories!"

Avery gave him a playful glance and pretended to be in pain again. She beckoned to Josephine. "Oh, it hurts. Josie, come help me."

Josephine had been finding it hard to join the conversation earlier, but upon hearing Avery's words, she hurried over to support her.

Avery leaned against her shoulder. She raised her plaster-casted hand and placed it on Josephine's shoulder. She then shot a teasing look at Quintin as if asking him whether he was jealous or annoyed. She could be affectionate with Josephine, but someone was too timid to even touch her.

"Oh, my lower back hurts. Josie, can you give me a little massage?"

Josephine nodded and placed her hand on Avery's lower back before gently massaging it. "Is it here?"

"A bit lower."

"Yes, that's it."

Quintin felt triggered. He stood up, snatched Avery's crutch, and limped toward the door.

"I'm going to the restroom."

His injuries were milder than Avery's, and he could move around fairly freely now. However, his limp whenever he walked fast seemed somewhat comical.

Watching his annoyed figure, Josephine couldn't help but laugh.

"Josie, what do you think of that silly guy?"

Josephine's smile broadened. "He's a nice guy. He has a kind heart and is quite righteous."

"Yeah." Avery agreed, nodding. "He's a bit foolish, but that can be endearing. At least he won't mistreat you."

Josephine didn't understand what Avery meant. Confused, she looked at her. "Why would he mistreat me?"

"I mean, if you two were together. I think Quintin genuinely likes you. He might be slightly silly, but he's better than Lewis."

Josephine's gaze lowered as thoughts of Yona's suicide crossed her mind again.

She cast a concerned look at Avery. Avery was still thinking of separating her and Lewis. If Lewis found out ...

Suppressing her emotions, Josephine said, "Avery, I only see Quintin as a friend. He's kind-hearted and treats everyone well. Don't misunderstand."

"Oh, come on. I'm not blind." Avery sighed, then suddenly straightened up. Her expression became complex as she looked at Josephine. "Do you really like Lewis?" Josephine nodded. "Yes, I do."

"Gosh, you..."

"

"So, Avery, stop trying to separate me from him."

"Alright, you stubborn mule ... Oops, I shouldn't say that to you." Avery extended a finger to scratch her head and corrected herself. "Well, as long as you're happy." Josephine managed a weak smile.

Josephine stayed with Avery for a while longer, but her two bodyguards urged her to return.

Reluctantly, she bid farewell to Avery.

Once outside the hospital, the bodyguards sent her back to Styx Mansion.

Lewis hadn't returned yet. Only Mrs. Larson was at home.

After having dinner, Josephine headed to her bedroom. She was so exhausted that she collapsed onto the bed and quickly fell asleep.

Lewis returned around 8:00 pm. He scanned the house and didn't see Josephine.

Mrs. Larson said, "Mr. Alvarez, Mrs. Alvarez had dinner and went to her room to sleep."

Lewis nodded. He removed his coat and handed it to Mrs. Larson before going upstairs.

Upon pushing open the bedroom door, he saw Josephine was indeed sleeping. He approached the bed and touched her forehead to ensure her temperature was normal.

He then called Mrs. Larson over and asked, "How long has she been asleep?"

Mrs. Larson whispered, "She went to sleep right after dinner, so it's been over two hours."

"Call Yannis here."

"Yes."

Yannis Halliday hadn't visited for a few days. He was immersed in his study and surrounded by piles of books when Mrs. Larson called him.

He rummaged through the books to find his phone. Upon receiving the message, he hurriedly grabbed his medical kit before rushing over.

Upon arriving at the mansion, Lewis scrutinized him from head to toe as if he needed to double-check before recognizing him.

"Did you go begging for food?"

Surprised, Yannis glanced down at his attire. He was still in his pajamas. He touched his chin, where his beard was prickly, and then ran his fingers through his messy hair. He looked tired. The dark circles under his eyes made him look like a panda.

Yannis sheepishly said, "Mr. Lewis, I've been working on research these days, so I haven't had time to tidy up. What can I help you with? Are you feeling unwell?" Lewis responded, "Go check on Josephine."

"What's wrong with her?"

Lewis instantly lost his patience. His tone turned cold as he replied, "Just do as I say!"
