The Sway and Slide of Love

Chapter 357

"Honestly, what I hate most about youde of the world is all those tangled relationships. So much tradition and so many rules-filial piety, etiquette, all just shackles you impose on yourselves.

"That's why I've always said this place suits you better. Free and unrestrained-you can do whatever you want whenever you want," Erwin said.

Hendrix listened without a flicker of emotion on his face. When Erwin finished speaking, he simply replied, Thanks for the suggestion."

With that, he walked out.

Erwin called after him, "If Noelle ever betrays you, remember you're always welcome to come back."

It was unclear whether Hendrix heard him or not. His footsteps didn't falter, nor did he offer any response.

Erwin chuckled to himself. He then pulled out his phone and sent a message to Noelle.

"Ms. Swanson, I'm looking forward to your excellent performance."

Hendrix and Noelle returned to Coppersville that very day by plane.

This didn't align with Hendrix's original work schedule, especially since he had previously mentioned needing at least half a month. However, he didn't explain the reason to Noelle, and she didn't ask

It wasn't until they were back in the country that Noelle, finally catching up on delayed news, understood why.

Ophelia had transferred five percent of her shares to Nathan and publicly announced that he would be joining the company to manage Amity Group alongside Hendrix.

The news caused an immediate uproar within the social circles. After all, Amity Group was the industry leader, and every move it made could influence countless people's lives. And now, a five-percent stake- original shares, no less-was involved.

It was one thing for Nathan to be a member of the Freeman family, but if those shares had ended up in the hands of an outsider...

"Nathan must be something else. Gerald's been dead for years, and yet Nathan managed to hold back until now to make his move."

"Holding back until now isn't the impressive part. The real trick was charming Mrs. Freeman Senior into giving him her original shares. I wonder if he's planning to fight Hendrix for the family fortune.

"Isn't it a bit late for that? I mean, the entire Amity Group is loyal to Hendrix."

"Who knows? With all the enemies Hendrix has made after shaking things up recently, there are plenty of people who'd love to see him fall. If Nathan stirs up trouble now, even if he can't win, he might muddy the waters enough to create problems."

The group chat buzzed nonstop, with new messages flooding in every second.

When Noelle worked at Elm Group, she had spent quite some time in this circle. While she wouldn't call these people friends, she was at least part of their group chats.

At that moment, the chat was buzzing with discussions about Nathan. Naturally, what they were most curious about was what was Hendrix feeling right now?

Seeing this message, Noelle instinctively glanced at the man next to her.

Hendrix showed no emotion at all. He was ing from his tablet, his demeanor no different from when he was immersed in work.

Noelle withdrew her gaze and continued scrolling through the chat. However, by then, the conversation had already shifted to someone's newly purchased yacht..

Losing interest, she was about to check another group chat when her phone rang.

It was Beatrice.

She seemed to have just learned of their return to the country and promptly invited them to dinner that evening.

Noelle didn't respond immediately. Instead, she turned to look at Hendrix.

Without hesitation, Hendrix took her phone and answered curtly, "I'm not free."

And without waiting for a reply, he ended the call.
