The Sway and Slide of Love

Chapter 332

Chapter 332

People could only divert their attention for so long.

It was only for a few seconds, like someone in a gloomy mood, even if they momentarily forgot their feelings after seeing something. Once those seconds passed, the gloom inevitably returned. The same could be said for the atmosphere between Noelle and Hendrix.

Even though Nathan's arrival had prompted a temporary "truce" between them, nothing else in their relationship had changed.

What stood out, however, was how quickly Noelle could shift her emotions compared to Hendrix.

At this moment, Hendrix's hand was still suspended midair. It was only after a long pause that he retracted it, tossing his phone onto the center console.

"You don't believe me?" he asked.

"Not really," Noelle replied almost immediately. "Besides, at this point, there's no reason for you to lie to me, is there?"

Hendrix listened to her words, but they didn't make him feel any better.

So, it wasn't that Noelle didn't believe him. She genuinely didn't care.

Hendrix took a deep breath before saying, 'So, whatever happens to Sandra has nothing to do with me. From now on, don't bring her into any conversation about us.

"Mm, got it," Noelle replied, letting out a faint laugh. "You've always been good at that."

Hendrix frowned. "What do you mean by that?"

"Isn't it obvious?" she shot back, her gaze fixed outside the window. "I'm talking about people who hold no benefit to you.

"In the past, you had some patience for Sandra. Was it because there was still a sliver of genuine

friendship there? Or was it simply because you wanted to use her to hurt me over and over, so you could see and validate the love I had for you?

"But now, you don't need her anymore, or maybe her presence does more harm than good for you. So, without hesitation, you've dumped her. Even if she's stuck in the mad, you won't spare her a shred of sympathy.

"Isn't that what I went through before? That's why I said you've always been good at this."

She paused, her tone quieter but still cutting. "I just wonder. When will it be my turn?"

Noelle kept her eyes on the window, her words drifting out as though they were meant for herself more than for Hendrix. She wasn't waiting for his reply-she didn't need it.

But Hendrix's expression darkened, his jaw tightening as he gripped the steering wheel. When Noelle finished speaking her last sentence, he hit the brakes.

Under the sharp tone of his voice, Noelle nearly lost her balance again.

Hendrix leaned in and gripped her chin firmly. "So what? What do you want me to do? If I show Sandra compassion, it's wrong, but if I keep my distance, it's wrong, too. Then, what do you want from me? What do I have to do to satisfy you?!

His body kept inching closer to Noelle as she spoke. In the confined space of the car, the overwhelming pressure

he exuded left her breathless.

Noelle furrowed her brows, about to respond, but Hendrix suddenly laughed.

The hand holding her loosened, and as if all the strength had drained from him, he slumped forward, collapsing onto her. His face was buried into the crook of her neck.

This intimate action only made Noelle feel more uncomfortable.

Just as she was about to push him away, Hendrix spoke, "No matter what I do, you'll never be satisfied, will you?"

"No, it's not dissatisfaction. It's indifference."

"You don't care at all about what I do or say, or how I am with other women, do you?"

He was questioning her, but even his voice didn't dare to rise.

Those words sounded more like he was mocking... himself.
