The Rotting Flesh Book 2: Deadman’s Wonderland

Chapter 19: Act Two

The hot wind made the whole place feel like a blanket. The sun was beginning to set and both sides were starting to prepare for the second act or the final no one really knew. This all would be decided by the proceedings of the night. In just one night the hinters had been mowed down by three quarters their original number. The prey on the other hand only a handful was left. Only the very best and the lucky still lived. All the weak had been rooted out during the chaos of the first act.

“How are the numbers looking” asked Ceaser as he bit a chunk of flesh off what seemed like an arm

“The the, our fo fo forces have be be” the man struggled to speak

The atmosphere in the room was too intense even for seasoned veterans it would prove too much. All the originals were gathered in there. To Ceaser’s right sat his bride Charlotte a gigantic woman almost as big as Ceaser. She had pale skin just like the rest and a deep voice almost as deep as Ceaser’s. She wore a self made leather bra and underwear, her dress code remained the same whether it was winter or summer.

“Speak” her voice echoed in the room “i dislike weak men” she added

“Why do we even keep these humans with us, its like living with your food” said Silus another original

He was as tall as Ceaser but way more muscular. He kept a full beard and bald head, looking at him was just like looking at a viking.

“This is why I prefer taking matters into my own hands” commented Blaze

Gustavo remained silent, he just watched as things progressed. He was never a team person and preferred to just act when the time came.

“Where is Lysias” commented Ceaser seeing one of his top men was absent

“He never listens to anything you say, why do you even tolerate him” commented Charlotte

“It is not his character I am after but his power”

Ceaser never tolerated weakness. If one of his men showed any form of weakness be it emotional or physical he immediately eliminated them. Lysias even though stubborn was the strongest among his men and the most ruthless. In terms of savagery he was a mirror reflection of Ceaser.

“Speak!! David” said Ceaser raising his voice

“We have lost three quarters of our men and the captives are left only a handful” he finally spoke

“Is that so, how did this happen?” asked Silus

“Well there seems to be some powerful people among the captives”

“They are not captives they are prey, captives is too kind” Silus cut David off

“Ye yes” David nodded sweat involuntarily flowing from his hair “the prey have been cut down to a handful”

“They seem to be better than last time” commented Ceaser scratching his cheek

“We well most of our losses were caused by just three groups” he said drawing everyone’s attention especially Gustavo’s who finally spoke

“El Diablo”

“I’m not sure rumor has it he was ambushed and massacred by the remnants of Victor”

“I guess he has failed to reach your expectations Gustavo” commented Ceaser

Gustavo slammed the armrest to the chair he sat on, shattering the wood upon impact.

“Then this conversation no longer concerns me” he said rising to his feet “inform me when the hunt is over and we have to collect more captives” he added and walked out

“Damn, was that El so promising” asked Charlotte

“I wonder too, you can leave now David” said Ceaser and David quickly made himself scarce “those damn pigs useless” he snapped

“Isn’t it about time we entered the fray?” asked Blaze

“I believe so, kill to your heart’s content” said Ceaser gritting his teeth

The men stood up and one after the other.

As the sun finally set both sides had prepared for the second act. The captives having defeated a large number of hunters were now more confident in their skills but little did they know what mother nature had in store for them that night.

The beginning of the second phase was signaled by an explosion in the direction of the cells. It was caused by an encounter between hunters and a few captives who had tried to break into the stronghold of the capturers.

“Its time we leave, I have a feeling tonight is going to be different” said Xin sheathing his swords

“Damn, I haven’t even healed properly” complained Tanya

“None of us have, just make sure if we encounter an excessive forces you lay back and be the sniper alright” said Nikita “we will protect you”

“A sniper is a great asset in the field because the enemy doesn’t even know what hit them” said Xin

“True I know you can do it” commented Tom smiling at her

“To make things easier for us tonight we attack first” Xin explained

“Us being the prices for the hunt, everyone one is already looking for us. Even those on our side who want Ceaser’s favor” said Nikita

“What about Ceaser?” asked Tom his expression darkening

“Rumor has it he might join the hunt this time, may God help us all” replied Xin

Tanya felt a chill go down her spine as images of their encounter with him flashed in her mind. Tom too was in the same situation. Nomatter how strong he wanted to convince himself he was, deep down he was terrified of Ceaser and was praying he would not encounter him.

Damn if he is to appear how will we defeat him? he thought staring in to the distance Theresa if you see him……..run
