Chapter 28
Chapter 0028
Sean halted in his tracks and fixed his eyes on Cecilia, meeting her serious gaze. Oh well, his attempts to keep his background under
wraps seemed to have failed.
“That’s correct,” he replied with a nod after taking a breath.
Cecilia was flabbergasted. Even though she had braced herself for his answer, his confirmation still hit her like a jolt.
“So, are you indeed the special guest?” Her breathing quickened when
she asked.
“What if I say I am?” Sean chuckled cheekily, adding to her shock.
She quivered in disbelief as she tried to process the reality that the special guest was standing right in front of her.
After the initial shock, a feeling of emptiness and disappointment settled in at the huge disparity between her and Sean. She realized that she must be out of his league, which made her a fool for mistaking Sean’s words from that night as a love confession.
He must have been joking with her. Her mood tanked with that thought.
Sean noticed the shift in Cecilia’s mood and chuckled to lighten the atmosphere. “Alright now. I was joking with you. There’s no way I am. the special guest.”
Relieved, she looked up at him. “May I know who exactly you are, Mr. Lakeworth? Don’t tell me you’re just an ordinary man. I won’t believe that.”
“I am truly an ordinary person, perhaps slightly more accomplished than the rest. Mr. Black helped me out today to repay me for saving

his life. Besides, he and I are acquainted because I am a member of the Lakeworth family,” Sean clarified.
Unwilling to deceive Cecilia, who had chosen to trust him, he refused to burden her with the knowledge of his social status at the same time. Therefore, he opted to partly reveal his identity.
“The Lakeworth family? Aren’t they one of the Eight Great Families of Ace City?” Cecilia’s eyes widened.
“Yes, we used to be one of them, but that was a long time ago.”
“Why?”
“We were dropped from the ranking because we couldn’t make the cut,
Η
Sean playfully said.
“Well, they made the wrong decision, then!” Cecilia protested on Sean’s behalf because she regarded him as a capable man.
Surprised by her supportive gesture, he gently mumbled, “Thank you.”
“You don’t have to thank me! You’ve always been capable,” she added,
“Thank you for trusting me.” A warm smile lit up his face. “Let’s go with ‘Sean’. It’s quite old-fashioned for you to address me by my last
name.”
“Cool! I’m just Cecilia. Let’s reintroduce ourselves.” She reached out for a handshake with a smile, suddenly feeling much closer to Sean.
He responded with a smile and a handshake, relishing the softness of her hand. He suddenly asked, “By the way, Cecilia, may I ask you for a
favor?”
“What is it?” She stared at him.
He said, “I have never revealed my family background to anyone else. Could you keep it a secret for me?”

“Of course.” She nodded firmly.
“Thanks.” He beamed warmly.
“Don’t mention it.” She waved at him as her heart raced.
Was that the first secret they shared?
Her train of thought was interrupted by a phone call. She checked her phone and found Larry calling her.
She hurriedly answered the call, “How are you, Mr. Walker?”
“Ms. Worthington, we have drafted the contract for the Skye City downtown project. You may visit us and sign it at any time,” Larry addressed her politely.
“Is that so? I’ll be there soon. Please wait for me!”
“Will do, Ms. Worthington.”
After hanging up, Cecilia turned to Sean with an excited look. “Great news! Mr. Walker is signing the contract with me!”
“Congratulations,” Sean said with a grin.
Cecilia suddenly let out a huge sigh out of nervousness. Feeling puzzled, he wondered, “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing. I’m just a little nervous,” she confessed, knowing that the contract was immensely important for the Worthington family.
“Would you like me to accompany you?” he offered.
Feeling touched, she checked with him, “Are you okay with it?”
“Of course.”
“Thank you, Sean.”
“Haha! No big deal. Let’s get going.”
“Sure!”
