The Reborn Wife Strikes Back ( Gordon Holmes’ )

Chapter 77

Chapter 77

“Taylor, are you annoying me on purpose?”

He finally spat the piece of cantaloupe out with difficulty before turning and rolling his eyes at me.

“No. Didn’t you say to me long ago that things between us were impossible?”

I shrugged, putting on an innocent expression.

“I feel that I’ve already humbled myself.”

His voice lowered once more. He lay down again, opened his eyes, and looked up silently at the moon. He exuded an aloof and distant presence.

Was this what he thought of as humbling himself

I honestly didn’t feel that way at all.

If I hadn’t personally seen how crazed he had been for Sabrina in my past life, I would have maybe given

In because of his little concession.

However, I had personally witnessed what he was like when he was in love, and when I compared it to how he was treating me now, it paled woefully in comparison.

At most, he was treating me more humanely, whereas previously, he hadn’t even thought of me as a

person.

“The pie is really delicious. Are you sure you don’t want a taste? When I was a kid, my favorite thing was to sit on the roof with my parents and eat pie as we admired the moon.”

I changed the subject again. I really did not want to ruin the harmonious atmosphere between us tonight.

Even the night breeze seemed unusually rule–abiding. It was not too strong or too weak, nor was it too. warm or too cool. Everything was just right. On top of that, it was Thanksgiving.

Gordon looked even grimmer. He stood up and walked over to the railings. His voice, drifted to me through the wind.

“Grandpa’s health is worsening. He hopes that we can have a child before he passes away.”

My heart skipped a beat.

Gordon’s grandfather, Darius Holmes, was already 90 years old. Ever since he retired, he had been living at their old residence, and he had a special caretaker to look after him.

I had only seen him once, which was on the day I married Gordon. Darius had still been very energetic at the time. He had worn a red robe and had looked very happy to see us getting married:

I had heard that when Gordon was a child, his grandparents had been the ones who took care of him. He was very close to them, but his grandmother had passed away due to illness before we were married.

It was no surprise he was suddenly treating me well. It was all for Darius.

I finally understood his behavior.

I knew that he wouldn’t have changed his attitude toward me so abruptly. Someone who had never respected you wouldn’t have changed so suddenly. It was unrealistic.

The spark that had ignited in my heart was extinguished at that moment.

Gordon’s phone rang. I glanced at it and saw that it was Sabrina calling. My heart skipped a beat when i

saw it.

Many messages had flooded in, so I could only see a part of it on the screen. However, what I saw was

enough.

It read, “Mr. Holmes, thank you for your Thanksgiving gift. I like it very…”

Gordon was so thoughtful.

I’d been together with him for so long, yet he had never given me any gifts. He had only known Sabrina for a few days, but he had already made the effort to get her a Thanksgiving gift.

I felt bitter, and I instantly felt my heart turn cold beneath the light of the moon.

“Sabrina has probably been discharged already, right?” I asked casually, avoiding the subject once more.

“Yes. She was discharged yesterday.”

Gordon turned. At that moment, he looked almost pure in the silver glow of the moonlight that seemed to envelop him. His every movement seemed like that of a god, and it made me want to grovel at his feet.

“Oh. I think she just replied to your message. Are you going to read it?” I raised my eyebrows at him and gestured for him to look at his phone.
