Chapter 5
Chapter 5
That car–piercing voice instantly reminded me of how Mona took advantage of my dad’s trust in my previous life.
Back then she was about to be promoted to Radglo Corp.’s vice president and oversee two of the company’s core departments.
Hearing that my Dad wanted me to work at Radglo Corp. as his assistant, she definitely would be afraid. It was no wonder she would loudly object to the idea when she entered.
I was stupid in my previous life and treated her like my own sister. I thought she really cared about me, so I never suspected her evil intentions.
I had never suspected a thing despite the fact she could enter my house as she pleased, and Dad would always bring her along when he worked. She had slowly acquired power and gained control over Radglo
Corp. that way.
I even used to think Mona was telling the truth when she said she couldn’t bear to see me working hard.
She told me she would work in my place so that I could enjoy the yearly bonuses easily.
Later, Mona and her father, Willard Morgan, partnered up with some shareholders to kick my dad out of
the board of directors.
Mom died of a heart attack due to Dad’s sudden sex scandal, and Dad jumped off the building because
he had nothing left. Only then did I finally know Mona and Willard were just wolves in sheep’s clothing.
However, the ship had sailed, and everything was too late.
Meanwhile, I was deeply in love and had no experience in managing a business at all, so there was nothing I could do to overthrow the two wolves.
My heart raged with hatred when I saw Moná living her best life.
This time, I wouldn’t make the same mistake again and let my enemies be happy by hurting my family. I
wouldn’t let Mona and Willard take everything from my family.
“Momo! Why didn’t you come back earlier? Mom made a feast!”
JUNE
Even though I was filled with hatred, I still called out to her sweetly like I used to.
The show had only just begun, so I didn’t mind acting like a close sister to her for now.
*I’ve already eaten. What’s up with you? Are you bored of being Mrs. Holmes?
“Why do you want to work at Radglo Corp. out of the blue?” Mona asked with a smile as she ran to me and wrapped her arm around my shoulders like she used to.
However, I could clearly see the anxiousness in her eyes. It looked like she was afraid I might interfere in something important to her.
“That’s right. Life’s so boring now, and I’m beginning to envy the powerful life you have in the business
world Since Radglo Corp, belongs to my family, I can try working there for fun. There’s no harm in that.”
I
I purposely acted like I didn’t care too much so she wouldn’t be suspicious of me.
“You’ll feel even more bored at work because you need to work with a bunch of men, numbers, and data.
“If you’re bored now, I’ll give you a membership card for my friend’s new clubhouse. There are all kinds of activities there, like board games, video games, and kart racing. You should have fun there instead of
working.
Mona was still smiling and acting like she cared about me.
That was how she was in my previous life. She tried her best to tempt me with fun new activities and hoped I would be occupied by them all the time and be as far away from the company as possible.
This time, I wouldn’t fall for her tricks again.
I shook my head and faintly smiled. “Momo, I’ve suddenly lost interest in all those. Now, I just want to get involved in business. Dad, I promise I’ll report for work next Monday!”
“Why would you suddenly lose interest? Are you feeling down because of Gordon? Tay, listen to me. You
aren’t built for business…”
Mona was clearly panicking and was still trying to talk me out of it. However, I was tired of listening to her nonsense, so I interrupted her.
“Momo, I’ve made up my mind. Why are you objecting to the idea so much? Could it be that you’re trying
to inherit Radglo Corp.?”
I purposely mentioned her goal to see how she would react.
As expected, anxiousness flashed through her eyes, and her face became red. She quickly waved her
hands.
“N–No way. I would never dream of that. I’ve told you before that I’ll always work in your place. You’re the
true heir to the company.”
I scoffed silently to myself. If only that was what she really thought.
“That’s right. I’m the only daughter my dad has. My dad would never refuse if I wanted to inherit the company now, let alone work there. Right, Dad?”
I grabbed my dad’s arm and blinked at him.
Dad had always catered to my needs. Hearing what I said, he nodded without hesitating.
“Of course! As long as my daughter wants it!”
Dad and I were singing the same tune, and it instantly made Mona frustrated. She didn’t look as arrogant
as she did earlier. Mona shut her mouth and didn’t dare to say anything else.
That night, I stayed at my parents‘ house and slept in the room they had always kept for me.
Mom prepared a new blanket for me. I fell asleep soundly to its fresh scent.
Chapter 5
I didn’t return to the house I was staying with Gordon, and I didn’t know if he ever looked for me. In fact, I didn’t even care if he would look for me anymore.
The next day, I received a call from our butler, Bailey Wade.
“Mrs. Holmes, where were you? Did you not return last night?”
“I’m at my parents‘ house
“I see. Mr. Holmes asked about you when he returned last night. Mrs. Holmes, have you gotten into a fight with Mr. Holmes?” Bailey carefully asked on the other side of the call.
In the past two years of marriage, only Bailey would secretly care about me in that house.
“Yeah. Please tell him that I’m not planning on staying there anymore. I’ll go get my things when I have the time,” I calmly spoke into the phone.
“Mrs. Holmes, what has gotten into you so suddenly? I know Mr. Holmes can be overbearing sometimes, but a marriage is forever. As long as you two stick together, things will get better.”
Hearing that I wanted to leave, Bailey started sounding anxious.
“Things won’t be better between me and him. You know he has no feelings for me.”
I chuckled bitterly and didn’t dare to have any hope. Then, I hung up the call right away.
In my previous life, hours would feel like months if I weren’t beside Gordon’s side for a few hours, let alone a whole day. I would keep thinking where he was, who he was with, or what he was doing.
Now, he could do whatever he wanted.
I could see clearly now and didn’t care anymore. Where he was and who he was with had nothing to do
with me.
From that moment on, I only wanted to do the things I wanted and love myself instead of falling into a
trap.
I got out of bed and opened my closet. Seeing the old clothes in there that my mom arranged neatly, I
couldn’t help but smile.
Before I married Gordon, I was a rebellious girl. Back then, I liked racing suits and punk jeans. I liked wearing cool accessories and having short hair.
However, after learning that Gordon liked gentle women with long hair, I abandoned all these clothes and replaced them with the dresses and gowns I used to hate. I couldn’t even bear to cut my hair and let it
grow to my waist.
In reality, why would we need to cater to someone’s preferences? Those who loved us would still love us
no matter what.
After I practiced playing the piano for another day, I took out a black T–shirt and a pair of ripped jeans from the closet. Then, I grabbed my favorite pair of shoes and went straight to the salon after putting on light makeup.
Chapter 5
Soon, my long hair became short with a skilled hairstylist’s help. Even my bangs were cut short into air bangs
I looked at the new person in the mirror and felt a huge burden off my shoulders.
At that moment, the salon was playing a song about cutting hair short and leaving everything behind.
It sure was a great coincidence. I couldn’t help smiling brightly in the mirror.
Suddenly, my phone started ringing.
I took a look at the phone and saw it was my best friend, Selena Stewart, calling
“Where are you, Tay? Come find me. I’m in a bad mood.”
I heard Selena’s helpless voice right after I answered the call.
“I’m at the salon. Where are you? I’ll come over now,” I answered right away.
“I’m at Paradise Club. Be here soon. I’ll wait for you.”
