Chapter 48
Chapter 48
“I appreciate the gesture, but please keep your distance from my wife next time,” Gordon said, his tone.
tinged with annoyance.
His reference to me as his wife caught me completely off guard, leaving my mouth hanging open in
surprise.
I was taken aback at this man, who had never called me “wife” before, suddenly using the term. I found it
unexpected.
“Why did it take you so long to change? Follow me. I’ll introduce you to some distinguished guests.”
Gordon brushed off my surprise and promptly took my hand. He led me toward the central VIP table and proceeded to introduce me to several esteemed guests.
I
Since these VIPs had attended our wedding, they naturally knew I was Charles‘ daughter. As anticipated, the typical polite greetings were exchanged.
It was my first time accompanying Gordon in entertaining guests, and I initially felt a bit awkward in this
role.
However, having grown up in high society, I quickly adapted and slipped into the role of Mrs. Holmes.
Soon enough, I was interacting with everyone.
Gordon showed me respect, and I reciprocated. It was our first time jointly expressing gratitude to guests, yet it felt like we shared an unspoken bond.
We seamlessly complemented each other as if we had rehearsed for this moment.
However, plastering on fake smiles for so long was indeed tiring.
Just as I was about to sneak away to the backstage area for a break, Gordon’s secretary, Landon,
approached him with urgency.
“Mr. Holmes, there’s a major issue with the event schedule. We need your advice.”
An issue with the event schedule? Was it about the pianist?
Suddenly, it dawned on me, and I quickly followed Gordon backstage.
The environment backstage was chaotic. As soon as Gordon arrived, Hannah Dawson, the Director of the Planning Department, rushed over. She looked extremely worried.
She said, “Mr. Holmes, we’ve just received some terrible news.
“The pianist, Carly, was in a car accident on her way here.
“She’s in the hospital now, but her piano performance is scheduled to start in ten minutes. What should
we do?”
It was just like in the previous timeline.

Carly, a world–renowned pianist of mixed heritage, was the highlight of tonight’s event. Among the VIPs in attendance, many were her devoted fans.
Holmes Group had heavily promoted her appearance to generate publicity for the event. Her absence would surely put a damper on the entire evening.
Gordon was a perfectionist, and any flaw in the plan was unacceptable to him.
Upon hearing Hannah’s explanation, his brows furrowed into a deep frown.

He grunted, “Didn’t I emphasize the need for everything to go smoothly? How could such an accident
occur?”
“It was a sudden rear–end collision from a large truck that hit their vehicle. The situation was so unexpected. We really didn’t see it coming.”
“Mr. Holmes.”
At that moment, a clear and melodious voice suddenly pierced–through the crowd. Following the voice, Sabrina, who had been quietly standing among the guests, stepped forward.
My heart skipped a beat, and it felt like my blood froze in my veins.
Was this the moment I’d been waiting for?
Was Gordon finally going to meet his sweetheart? The woman he’d been pining for with unwavering
devotion.
wondered what expression he’d wear when he saw her for the first time.
