The Pigeon Pair Saves The Marriage by Janice Gold

Chapter 8

Chapter 8

Edith stood frozen in place, her eyes fixated on Gideon, motionless for a long time.

At this moment, Gideon in front of her was drenched by the heavy rain. His hair, wet and drooping, and his neatly tailored high-end suit were instantly soaked, with one arm at his side covered in yellow mud.

Gideon casually withdrew his hand, and Ray was already running over with an umbrella behind him. “Mr. Peterson!”

That was when Edith snapped back to reality. She stood up swiftly, her hat falling off. She didn’t bother to put it back on, her hair wet and sticking to her face.

She pressed her lips, her gaze falling on his arm. “Mr. Peterson, are you hurt? I really appreciate what you did just now.”

Her tone was cold and slightly distant, causing Gideon to frown slightly. He then looked down, took the handkerchief Ray offered, wiping his hands casually, and said indifferently, “You’re an artifact restorer I hired at a high price. You better not get your head hit.”

After saying this, Gideon turned and walked away. After a few steps, he looked back to see Edith still standing there and looked up. “Aren’t you coming?”

Ray explained, “Ms. Jones, there is no changing room here. What Mr. Peterson means is…” He glanced at Gideon as if trying to figure out his intention. “He wants to take you to a changing room to change clothes.”

Edith frowned slightly, unsure whether Gideon was genuinely being considerate.

Ray added, “After all, you’re an artifact restorer Mr. Peterson hired at a high price. Please don’t catch a cold.”

Edith couldn’t say anything for a moment.

She thought, ‘Ray is indeed Gideon’s good assistant.”

But hearing Ray say that she didn’t think too much and silently followed behind Gideon.

Having removed her raincoat, Edith got into Gideon’s Rolls-Royce and soon saw Gideon sitting by the other side.

She looked down, sitting tightly against the side of the door.

But she didn’t know if it was her illusion or something else. Even with a distance between them, she inexplicably felt she could smell his cool fragrance.

She couldn’t help but move a bit more to the side.

Gideon caught a glimpse of her movement out of the corner of his eye, his expression slightly darkening.

He thought, ‘I’ve never seen her consciously distance herself from me before.

When Ray stopped the car, Edith finally looked up, startled, and murmured, “Why here?”

She thought, ‘Why has Gideon brought me here?

‘I wouldn’t find it strange if Gideon took me anywhere else, but why here?”

The raindrops fell heavily and densely on the glass. Through the large droplets sliding down the car window, she saw a familiar villa.

That was a place Edith once cherished, but now, it seemed to bring a coldness rising from

her feet.

She never thought she would return there.

Her voice was low, but Gideon heard it. He furrowed his brow, his tone icy. “If not here, where else do you want to go?”

Following Gideon inside, Edith glanced at the shoe cabinet.

Inside were all Gideon’s shoes.

She looked up again at Gideon’s tall figure.

She thought to herself, ‘Has that woman still not moved in?’

“Your shoes…” Gideon pondered for a moment. “The nanny probably didn’t throw them away.”

“What?” Edith was startled, took a moment to react, then bent down to open another shoe cabinet and saw her slippers on the bottom shelf.

She leaned on the cabinet door, unsure of how to react.

“This is the nanny’s negligence,” Edith muttered as she took out the slippers, looking down as she put them on.

Back when she was there, there was no nanny in the house. She was happy to do everything for Gideon and this home.

“Negligence?” Gideon, who had walked into the living room and taken off his suit jacket, had his white shirt tucked into his trousers, revealing a strong waistline. Hearing this, he glanced at Edith and made a somewhat perplexing remark. “That divorce agreement from back then is still in the study.”

She thought, ‘What does that mean?’

Edith pondered for a while but still couldn’t grasp the meaning of his words.

When Gideon went to the bathroom to shower, she sat on the sofa in the room, looking up at the very familiar room, feeling an unprecedented calm in her heart.

She thought, ‘Maybe I’ve truly moved on:

Suddenly recalling Gideon’s earlier words, she stood up and headed to the study.

Edith didn’t know where Gideon had placed the divorce agreement, but she opened the first drawer of the desk and immediately found it.

Edith’s name was clearly signed on the paper.

However, Gideon’s signature was not beside it.

After a while, Gideon came out of the shower, casually drying his wet hair with a towel. Droplets of water slid down his jawline, trickling along his attractive neck, across his collarbone, and eventually slipped into his shirt collar.

Edith sat on the sofa, still thinking about what she had just seen. Hearing a noise, she looked

up, instantly became alert and embarrassed, and quickly averted her gaze.

She took a new towel and then headed to the bathroom.

When she came out, Gideon was no longer in the room.

She walked out and saw Gideon sitting on the sofa in the living room with his back to her.

Droplets of water were still dripping from the tips of his hair.
