The Pigeon Pair Saves The Marriage by Janice Gold

Chapter 7

Chapter 7

At that moment, Danika squatted down, facing Ruben and Jeanne, and said with a soft and gentle voice, “Kids, my daughter was in the wrong today. I will definitely talk to her when we get home. I apologize to you on her behalf.”

Ruben and Jeanne exchanged a glance.

Edith sighed, “Ms. Hayes, there’s really no need to apologize. It’s normal for kids to argue and have a fight a bit. It’s fine.”

“Ms. Jones, could you add me on WhatsApp? If there’s anything I can help with in the future, I’ll be sure to do so,” Danika said, taking out her phone.

Feeling it rude to refuse, Edith took out her phone and added her as a contact.

She then nodded slightly. “If there’s nothing else, we’ll be leaving now.”

Holding the children’s hands, she turned to leave with her children, but she caught a glimpse of a Rolls-Royce slowly approaching not far away in the corner of her eye. Edith stopped her steps, paused, and turned her head slightly to see the Rolls-Royce stopping in front of Danika and Joyce.

Danika led Joyce into the car.

Edith watched the car, her brow slightly furrowed.

She thought to herself, That car looks somewhat familiar.

“Mommy, what are you looking at?”

Jeanne’s cute voice brought Edith back to reality. She turned and smiled gently, “Nothing.”

“Let’s go home. I’ll make fried chicken wings for you and meatballs for Ruben, okay?”

Jeanne cheered. “Yay!”

Ruben couldn’t help but show a faint smile.

The next day, when Edith took the kids to school, she encountered Danika, who was there.

Seeing Edith, she hurried over, carrying two bags. “Ms. Jones.”

“Is there something you need?”

“Well, I made some snacks and brought them for the kids to try,” Danika said, dressed in a white dress, looking gentle and demure. She squatted down and handed one of the bags to Ruben.

Ruben looked at Danika with a bit of wariness and caution.

Danika smiled gently, looking at Ruben.

But the longer she looked at him, the more she felt something was off.

The little boy, Ruben, seemed strangely familiar to her.

Edith took the bag for Ruben. “Ruben, say thank you to Ms. Hayes.”

Ruben looked at Danika for a while longer before he managed to say, “Thank you.”

Danika then turned to Jeanne, handing her the remaining bag. “This is a little gift for you. My daughter loves it, and I think you’ll like it too. I just bought it at an auction recently.”

She took out a handmade embroidered pouch from the bag.

It had a lifelike little rabbit on it, looking lively and cute.

Holding her own rabbit doll, Jeanne exclaimed in surprise upon seeing the pouch, “Isn’t this…”

She was interrupted before she could finish her words by a tug on her hand from Ruben.

Jeanne immediately clammed up in tacit understanding.

Edith, looking at the pouch, also fell silent.

In the end, she still thanked her with a smile. “You really didn’t have to do so much.”

After dropping the kids off at the kindergarten, Edith chatted briefly with Danika before leaving for work.

She called Bonnie.

“What? Is the pouch she gave to Jeanne the one you made?”

Edith confirmed, “Absolutely, I stitched every part of it.”

“It’s amazing that she bought one of the only two pieces you sent to the auction. It’s quite a coincidence. She must be quite wealthy. Your work is highly sought after overseas. She must have spent a fortune at the auction.”

“Danika really seems sincere in her apology.”

“From what you say, I think she seems like a decent person. I didn’t expect her daughter to behave that way.”

Edith was nearing her workplace and chuckled slightly, curling her lips, “Who could have guessed?”

After a brief conversation, she hung up.

Her main task for the day was to survey the site.

Although it wasn’t her job, she wanted to see the site in person to better understand how the artifacts were damaged, aiding the subsequent restoration work.

Unluckily for Edith, it started to rain just as she arrived at the site.

The rain wasn’t heavy at first, but it poured heavily when Edith, clad in a raincoat, squatted next to the pit.

A digger at the nearby pit was halted from working due to the discovery of artifacts. They didn’t dare to dig anymore, fearing to damage more with another dig.

Wearing gloves, Edith squatted at the edge of the muddy pit, carefully examining a half-exposed and half-buried vase in the soil.

She looked down, focused intently, unaware of the digger’s shovel nearby, filled to the brim and nearly spilling over.

Not far away, Ray, holding an umbrella, accompanied Gideon to the site.

Gideon’s gaze lingered on the petite figure of Edith squatting there.

“Mr. Peterson, Ms. Jones is actually a really nice person, and she was so good to you before. Why… Seeing Gideon staring at Edith, Ray couldn’t help but sigh and start rambling.

Gideon turned, giving him an indifferent glance, coldness in his expression.

Ray immediately fell silent.

However, when Gideon turned back, he saw a large clump of soil in the digger’s shovel teetering, about to fall on Edith’s head.

His expression instantly became alert, and without a second thought, he dashed from under the umbrella towards her.

A dull thud sounded overhead, and Edith snapped out of her thoughts, looking up to see Gideon standing beside her, his arm stretched protectively over her head, his hand above her head.

It was a clear gesture of protection.
